Hi,

I spent several hours last night reading the forum, getting to grips with how to get my camera to shoot RAW, and then trying to work out a usable workflow ;) Then this morning I went out and short a little RAW footage :)

Canon 600D, ML2.3 and Tragic Lantern [600D] New System. RAW, 960x468 to provide continuous recording.

The RAW was then converted to a DNG sequence by BATCHelor2 and imported into Adobe Premiere 8, which seemed to accept it just fine. I did convert each clip into MOV then import that into FCP X, but I got loads of aliasing, so went back to Elements 8! The video above is from Elements 8.

The Vimeo version (via FCP X) is here...

Buoyed by my success with the first attempt, I tried again... this time at 1024x432 (RAW) [camera still set to 1920x1080, 25fps].

I did get somewhat confused after filming some test clips and then formatting the card (in-camera), as the camera reported 14MB used! It wasn't until I put the card into the PC, that it was apparent that the camera had recorded RAW, but wasn't reporting it all. Curious! Still with the knowledge that it was recording, I went out to the front garden and shot this at the new (to me) resolution of 1024x432, then upscaled to fit the width of the 1280x720 frame.

Thanks to the ML team  :D

So, there I was sitting in the office just pointing the camera at a few things at trying out some of the RAW settings to see what worked with which settings. Then I had an idea for a very short 'short', and here's the result...

As FCP X won't accept the DNG files, I've taken a step backwards to be able to deal with the DNG files and am using Adobe Premiere Elements 8. I tried to do a bit of colour grading on this (basically put some blue into the shadows, yellow/orange into the highlights and then desaturated it all slightly); added some audio and voila!

At last I have a workflow that allows me to use FCP X; after converting from RAW to DNG, each clip is converted to MOV using Premiere Elements and saved directly to an external HDD.

The disk is then connected to the Mac and each clip imported into FCP. This means I can use H.264 encoding for the initial conversion, create an Edit Decision List, then convert the DNG clips again to MOV but this time with uncompressed 10-bit YUV 4:2:2, then apply the EDL to those clips.

Very long winded, but I have just shot a proper job with the 600D and RAW, and it's looking good!
