Hi guys

We have to find the best solution for 6D raw recording, theoretically we are limited to 50MB/s.
In fact there is very hard to find a card which exceeds 40.
There are many information about write speeds in other topics but here I would like to gather all of them.

1. Sandisk Extreme 45MB/s   64GB     -37,5 to 39,7     peaking sometimes to 41,5 for half a second
2. Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s                                             ?
3. Lexar Professional Class 10 600x UHS-I SDXC                   ?
4. Delkin Devices 64GB SDXC Memory Card Elite 633x UHS-I ?
5. Kingston 64GB SDXC Memory Card Class 10 UHS-I.          ?
6. Patriot SDXC UHS-I U1 64GB                                              ?
7. Patriot EP Pro SDHC 32GB UHS-I 90/50 MB/s    -37,5 to 39,7 sometimes 41,5 for half a second (almost the same as no.1)

Patriot EP non pro... up to 32MB/s... usually 30-31.
Samsung 64GB UHS-1 30MB only... card rated at 40, crap.

Has there been any more research on the fastest card for the 6D?

I currently have the Sandisk Extreme 45MB/s - 32GB and I was looking at getting another one.  Is there any advantage to getting a Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s?  There does not appear to be any real advantage since the Canon 6D is limited to 50MB/s.

Any new information available?

Thanks

I have ordered patriot PRO 90/50 32GB. It is in theory 50MB/s write speed so seems to be optimized only for 100mhz frequency. Sandisk 45 has theoretically 5MB lower speed, sandisk 95 is optimized for 208mhz which may slow down 100mhz (but not sure of that, just thinking)
I think somebody from this forum had such a card and there wasnt much difference from sandisk but I cannot find this thread so I thought i should give it a chance.
Are there any other cards with claimed write speed 50MB and not 40,45 or 90/95?

I have ordered a Sandisk Extreme Pro 32Gb 95m/s. I should have it in a couple of days.

I will let you know as soon as I can start testing it how it goes.

Reading another thread in this forum i've stumbled upon this page, which was linked from another user: http://www.gavtrain.com/?p=2617

Does anyone have feedbacks for the Transcend cards? The 32 gb on amazon is only a couple of euros more expensive than the Sandisk, so I was thinking to give it a chance...

Let's cut to the chase: no way!  >:(

It is doing the same as sandisk 45 at best, sometimes is slightly worse   :(
All what I was hoping was 2-3MB/s more

Below i put comparison with sandisk 45 64GB - tested with [113] BigMemPhoto

Sandisk Extreme 45MB/s 64GB                                                           Patriot EP PRO 90/50MB/s 32GB
1728x736 >>> 342 frames hack OFF, hack ON - 357 frames---------------the same 342 frames but no difference Hack on/off
1792x752 >>> 280 frames hack OFF, 280 hack ON -------------------------worse with hack off >>280 H ON, 266 H OFF
1792x672 >>> 421 hack OFF----------------------------------------------------worse 406 H off
1664x704 >>> 528 frames hack OFF----------------------------sometimes better, sometimes the same, 544, 528, 544
I think it gets the higher write speed - 39,4-39,9MB/s
1664x624 >>> 1548 frames hack OFF-----------------------------------------no comment, 1368

One good thing is that patriot is NOT MUCH worse than sandisk so I will have additional 32GB for raw footage.

Yeah, but they also tested sandisk 45 and according to the test results it should give actual 43 MB/s. I have never had such a write speed in 6D! I think, that the bottleneck is somewhere else and cannot continously do more than 40. But really  I hope I am wrong.
Maybe someone will buy this card and we will see.

It never hit that on the write test either did it?

Sucks if max is 10MB/s below the standard. I'll try when I pick the sandisk today or tomorrow.

Ok I have my Extreme pro to test right now but I don't have an extreme to compare it to. I don't really know how to get a 255mb buffer size like you Kgv5 so my results would be different from yours... Could you set your memory to 151mb for testing purposes, temporarily? Thanks.

Edit: Well on this test you did before:
"1664x624   612, 648, 630 (with hack on - 730, 738, 756)   upscale 115,5%"

I got 720 frames without hack mode on... Probably would get about 830+ with hack mode on. I guess it is a bit better lol.

sandisk extreme 45MB/s 64GB 151MB buffer, 1664x624 hack off-- 648 frames
seems that there is no difference  :(

To activate 255 buffer:

turn cam off
switch to stills mode
turn on cam
turn on LV
go to canon menu
go to fourth tab
long exp. NR - OFF
high ISO speed NR - NR (multi)
turn on ML menu
third tab from the right
go down to free memory
check - should be 255MB

remember, that first recording always is shorter somehow, so press record button, let the camera to record couple of frames, press record off.
Now you are ready for full 255MB buffer recording.
So let us know how many frames do you have with resolutions from my previous posts, thanks  :)

Hi and thanx KVG5, I was having the same problems than xNiNELiVES, got a sandisk extreme pro 32Gb to try but I didn´t know how to get all the buffers.  ;) Cheers.
I´ll do some test I will report them asap.

Kgv how could it not be better when I got 100 more frames?

hack mode is better depending on frame size.. but doesn't seem worse.. sometimes GD off is better too.

Ohh... sorry, my mistake, 640 was a quote from me  :)
So that's great  :D  could you please test it with other resolutions qith 255MB buffer?

Yeah I will ASAP.  At school lol.

One more question though: do I have to set the picture quality to jpeg?

Yep, jpeg, no raw.

I don't have the camera to double check but last night when I switched to camera mode (stills) and changed from RAW to jpeg the red light by the SD card door would not stop flashing.  Is that normal?

From the results above it looks like the Extreme (not Pro) 45MB/s is the second best choice by a very small margin.  With the write speed slightly better on the Pro but not enough to justify the price.  I was hoping that the Patriot EP Pro SDHC UHS-I 90/50 MB/s with the 50 MB/s but it appears to be hitting the hardware write speed limit.

Yeah, exactly, I was hoping that too.
But one thing is strange - if top speed is 40 how can we have 41-41,5 for a second or so sometimes (both sandisk 45 and patriot 50). Especially in the beginning sometimes I have 41-41,5 (for about half a second) and then it drops to 37-39. Maybe there is a way to sustain this higher speed for just a little bit longer.

Yeah I will ASAP.

xNiNELiVES, could you please check especially 1792x752 with working LV and force left? I have 280 frames, speed 41 for a half second, than dropping to 39-39,5. This res is very nice, 2,39:1, 107,5% upscale and quite usable 10-12 seconds of footage. I wonder if you could get some more frames with sandisk 95.

My only guess would be that the buffers are more available for moments at a time which is why we're seeing a spike.  What a challenge and hats off to the development team to get us this far. ;)

Ok well for some reason with the 7x32mb buffers I only get 183 frames. I consistently get 38.5-39mb/s never 41 though.

What Autoexec are you using, etc?

now I have the newest build, [113] Just small Changes with H264inis but I get the same results also with previous [113] ETTR-MemDontclick and [113] BigMemPhoto. This 41 is only for like a half a second in the beginning, normally 39-39,5. Other settings: sound sync beep,  global draw off, framing force left, preview auto, start delay doesn't matter, memory hack on.
the first recording gave me 181 frames, second- 281 frames. From time to time I get also 266 frames.

Oh! Fuck why didn't I listen I forgot about how it's shit at the start, I'll retest lol.

Edit: OMG i was at 30 fps too!

Ok Well I retested twice, I get the 41.5mb/s spike and then it goes down to 39 then it went back up to 40 for a second. Still only got 280 frames.

Do you know what the difference is between 23.976 and 24p? Well besides the obvious difference, I'm talking about functionality differences. Why is it such a important number compared to 24 hundredths of a second difference in a frame.
