Does anyone know if it looks likely that more buffer memory is going to be leveraged in the future? Every bit is precious in this case :)

I've heard nothing, but when looking at the screen when recording i do often see unused mb/s & empty buffer blocks that, in theory, could be used but the recording stops.

The problem is really about the development of the 5D3 over every other model (which is understandable) & i don't think the developers actually have a 60D. It would be v.welcome to squeeze out more, but if you look at the other models in our category (minus the 50D), then we really are getting great results.

As far as quality is concerned, i have found that 1280x... is absolutely fine for upscaling, but you need to manually follow the ETTR rule (not the module for photos) in order to reduce sensor noise. And you've got to remember that the old H264 was absolutely shit compared to most RAW resolutions upscaled. Further to this, RAW is only going to be useful for fictional story telling & not Doc style run'n'gun.

I've just shot a music video [experiment] for a friend using 13sec bursts & that was just about long enough. However, you still have to factor in Moire/Aliasing, as its still there in abundance & i think it shows up more than it did with the H264!

I have been meaning to get around trying out the RAW video on my 60Da. Thanks to sequestration I don't "have" to work today, so I downloaded the latest nightly and fired it up. My results seem pretty inline with what everyone else has been getting from what I've read on this thread:

1728x972 - 134 frames @24fps
1280x720 - 361 frames @24fps
960x540 - 1135 frames @24fps

(Lexar Platinum II 32 GB 200x class 10)

I'll have to say the 720p is stunning and 361 frames is *almost* useable, certainly blows 1080p H.264 out of the water.

I was just curious so I tried out 60fps, which did not work at all, almost every frame was screwed up. I'm guessing that no one has really messed with 60fps, just trying to get the max out of 24fps, and understandably so.

The workflow was also way easier than I expected. I used RAWMagic to convert to CinemaDNG and then imported the DNGs directly into After Effects. That's pretty much only one extra step than my typical workflow.

Thanks for the build!
I've tried this build with DSLR controller for Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.dslrcontroller
RAW rec stops after 25 frames captured. Error messages about the memory.

marekk

It worked with previous builds ?

I didn't try raw before. But having to output video feed to the USB port at the same time recording raw video, too much work for the poor 60D.

I used the app with my Nexus 7 tablet for h264 as external monitor (Peaking included). The app could be used as server/client. A setup like this.
Eos Camera >> USB OTG >> Smartphone with OTG support set as Server >> Wifi Hotspot created by the smartphone >>Wifii >> Tablet/Smartphone conected to the same wifi as client within the app. Cheap Wireless Monitor for Stills/h264

raw-rec reserves all available memory and probably there is no memory available for this usb connection.. I tested this tool few months ago on my htc one x+ and it's a nice feature but unfortunately there is no version for ipad ;)

you mean the tiny dead/hot pixels? Only way to get rid of them is to use ACR in your post workflow, which will remove them. Or use lv_af_raw from marekk's recent builds. lv_af_raw is an edge detection filter that gets rid of dead/hot pixels but at the cost of some artifacts.

eclubb87

Dont think its that. Its Pink Pixels in only certain things. Here is the Info...
Im shooting 1280 x 480 I get about 2000 frames on my Scandisk Extreme Pro 95mb's
I have Global Draw=off ...   lv_af_raw=on .... FPS= 24fps ... Sound Disabled and jpeg = S3
I Still get a large number of Pink frames and lv_af_raw even when on doesnt seem to work all the time.
I have been getting these Pink Pixels all over but not Like hot/Dead pixel ...well maybe it is any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys

Workflow. Camera to rawMagic then Resolve and Out

it all on the right side in the bushes and bench... If you open the image up you can see it better

I was getting the same results with Davinci Resolve, (without lv_af_raw). With Camera RAW (AE),

Try this frame with Camera RAW: https://app.box.com/s/ah4dzr53700foxyihp6 With Resolve (posted early), it's a mess of bad pixeles. Useless.  Shot at 1728 2.35

Good work! What version of ML should I merge this with?

WiFabio

I have a suggestion...

I love to use Magic Lantern as a FPS Override Time Lapse.
So I tested Raw Video with override and it work with NO STOP when I shoot from 1fps to 7 fps, 37s of video with 9fps (at 1728x972).
Why don't you enable 1080p video with the override option enabled? I think its a good value to add RAW Override Video "Time Lapse" because of the quality gained with it!

Thanks, waiting for your opinions..

PS: all highlight are violet if I "record the sky light"...its not like pink pixel, all the cloud are violet. Any suggestion? I use raw2dng to convert..

I haven't noticed any magenta fringing like that in any of my footage so I don't know how to help with that.

I have noticed with lv_af_raw, however, that it says it's "on" but it doesn't stay "on" when I turn my camera off then back on. I always turn lv_af_raw "off" then back on again just to be safe because I've noticed dead/hot pixels when rebooting my camera and lv_af_raw is "on."

Personally, Davinci Lite on a PC (for those using one) is FUBAR.  It gave me all sorts of hot pixilated effects--totally unusable.  Me: raw2dng, Lightroom 5 (rendered out as Jpgs to keep the file size down), Movie Studio 12 = no hot pixels at all.
When you care more about capturing DATA, as opposed to WONDERMENT, you've lost your creative SOUL.

could it just be moire or aliasing?

iamoui

I'm still getting random corrupt/pink frames with update 10. Global Draw OFF, Black Bars, lf_af_raw ON See example: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9bV9eF2RQTOUGR1RjltSVMwUmc/edit?usp=sharing

RAWMagic -> Resolve -> BMD Film only for this clip.

I will try the new update and see how it goes!

I am getting great results otherwise (aside for the moire and aliasing, which I can sometimes control with shallow depth of field.)

These are RAWMagic -> Resolve -> BMD Film -> Hook's LUT -> minor adjustments

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9bV9eF2RQTON2tJQU5ybG5qX2s/edit?usp=sharing

I'll also add that the FPS show 23.97 in RAWMagic, as that's what I'm shooting, but every so often there will be a random 29.97 FPS. Not exactly sure why as I never change my FPS in camera.

I've been getting good (not perfect) moire correction using Lightroom adjustment brush loaded with Moire at 100 with 100% flow and density.

Alright I have abandoned the resolve raw workflow but now I'm using ACR and I still have some dead pixels!!!! Any idea it's sometimes black and sometimes red. I will post a picture later anyone else having this issue? THis is also a issue i am having! this is a screen shot out of ACR

Question what are you encoding with for youtube and the bit rate stuff like that? I swear youtube compresses the hell out my images. I've tried a bunch of different settings yours looks pretty good though.

Bernardo Segura

Do you guys know if the video crop mode is working on 60D. I saw some videos of 5dm3 and 50D and its stunning (https://vimeo.com/66604210)

I need a camera for a macro documentary, so if the 60D allows that, its going to be perfect for me!

Thanks you very much!!, it's hard to find information for such an early depelopment

I exported from resolve as ProRes 422 HQ then uploaded to Google Drive. That's it.

I haven't gotten crop mode to work. The screen freezes whilst recording then all of the frames are screwed up.

I was able to record with zoom button(is this called cropped?).

hi Marekk,
is it possible to integrate the changes from update 11 into the unified tree, because I like the black frame and lv_af switch in the raw menu but it doesn't exist in the unified ML Nightly 60D builds.
Thank you,
JK
