Did you make your card bootable? If you haven't:

for Windows  or

for mac

Per ML user guide:        http://wiki.magiclantern.fm/install

i think what holtwebb and numarex means is they already installed the 2.3 stable release successfully but they cant find the raw in movie mode.

to use raw you have to (as of my understanding and experience)

1. download the Nightly Builds download it here http://builds.magiclantern.fm/ choose the 60D version.
2. then extract those files to you desktop.
3. select all and drag those files in your 2.3 stable release SD card. if it says theres a existing files like that and you have to overwrite, then overwite.
4. load your SD card to the 60D and at the ml menu (trashcan button) go to modules, browse and find raw_rec (hit set to load the raw module)
5. it will say will load at next reboot. so turn off the camera and wait for like 5 secs then turn it on.
6. in ml menu go to video recording and you will see its there, you just have to enable it and modify your resolutions etc.
7. jump for joy! just dont drop your camera. congrats your ready to shoot raw!

Here's my first proper Raw Video with the 60D. The town I live in floods every year so I thought I'd capture it:

Great job man! whats your lens and workflow?

raffal92

Got lastest nightly but i have a lot of dead pixels.... and in the menu there is any option to avoid them... how to resolve?

lionelp

@raffal92- Assuming you mean hot pixels there are a few remedies depending on what software that you are using.  Also:

@RenatoPhoto posted the above here:

Hope that helps.

Just been playing around with the 60d Raw in crop mode. I am getting 4 -6 Second bursts of 1920X1080 or 1920 X... depending on Aspect Ratio, with my card; the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 MB/s 32GB . It is amazing what you can do with 4 seconds though. Most of the shots that I would use as an insert or reaction shot in a narrative are not much longer than 4 seconds. That coupled with 1728 X ...or 1280 ... makes a camera like the 60D usable.
Then of course under the right well lit conditions sneaking in H.264.  :)
Edit: Or if I have to only use raw only  (but in most cases I would mix formats) 960 X 540 or something continuous for longer scenes if needed. Especially for internet delivery.

While in Raw Crop Mode 10x - was shooting 1920X (I forget the exact aspect ratio). Exposure Overide on and FPS Overide at 23.976, Everything else including GD off- Using SD Card-Sandisk 95 MB/s 32 GB
Received a notice while actually shooting -
There was a  Sudden Stop, the camera made a beep
Then the Notice-Sudden Stop- "Bug Report 06- Please Report "
It happened fairly quickly and I didn't take a photo of the notice.
I turned the camera off and started it again and everything was as normal.

FINALLY 60D users can work with resolve.

This modified version of raw2dng by escho http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9700.msg98302#msg98302 works great. In my case it removes all bad pixel.

Another solution is mapping the bad pixels in a external file and apply an interpolation filter effect directly on resolve (OpenFX):
http://www.playtool.com/pages/pixelpatcher/pixelpatcher.html

LV_AF_RAW is not necessary anymore.  ;D

Marekk can you try this solution? If you believe this is the definitive solution at the moment, could you post it on first thread?

Here is my first completely Raw video filmed with 60d...The surfing was not epic that day but I was just testing out a entire Raw project.I also only used one lens, Canon 35 L 1.4, 5x crop was not the best for filming surfing, but I also was just trying it out..let me know what you think..

Looks good bennyray1! What was your workflow and what aspect ratio did you shoot it in crop?

Thank you very much. I filmed in 1280 x 720 aspect ratio based on the fact all we ever do is put our videos on Vimeo, so I have no need for larger resolutions. So I recorded everything in the .mlv format, and converted to dng's with the mlv dump through terminal( I am on a mac).My first idea was to use Resolve to convert them to Pro Ress and then go into Premiere and roundtrip back to Resolve. Well Resolve just processed all the clips with hot pixels, so I had like 80 unusable clips. So I started over, this time I used the Resolve Pro Ress clips inside VLC to view them all and see what at least was keepable. So on to the real workflow, I imported into the dng sequences into After Effects, did some slight modifications to exposure and detail in ACR and applied VisionLog from VisionColor.I only used Neat Video in After Effects when needed, mostly the cropped shots were very noisy, but I exported all the clips using the CineForm codec from Go-Pro.After I completed that lengthy process I was ready to bring in all my clips into Premiere. In Premiere I added M31 Lut from VisionColor via LutBuddy, applied small tweaks with the fast color corrector and then topped the entire sequence off with a Adjusted Layer with FilmConvert Pro applied to it. Export as .h264 and then let Vimeo ruin all the work I put in..hahaah

OK so I've read about 30 pages on this topic and this is what I got form it is.
Correct me if I'm wrong, because of the slower writing speed of the Canon 60d we users are not able too
record longer than 8sec. on 1280x720 @ 16:9 @ 24fps using mRAW and/or no longer than 14sec. on 1280x720 @ 16:9 @ 24fps using JPEG S2?
and getting any SD card faster than 45mb/s will not incearse your recording time. ( i have a 95mb/s sd and it didnt help..)

Compared to the Canon 5DmardIII which has a full senor, much higher write speed, can record up to 14sec. on Raw on 1920x872 @ 24fps as seen here https://vimeo.com/72008856

It's harder for a 60D to use the higher resolutions im guessing due to the lower write speed and cropped sensor??

so the reason im posting this is to ask you Pros..
Do i need to buy the 5DmarkIII to get the same image quality as like that from the Vimeo video i just posted??

Ill do it if i really have too.  ::)

its not the crop sensor but mostly due to the datarate bought about by the hardware used for the SD card storage. The cameras using CF cards are more capable so thats whay even older cameras like the 50D is faring better. The 7D is also performing well now.

So as far as ML use is concerned, in your question, yes a 5D mkIII is a better choice than the 6D.

I've just finished my last 2 projects that i'll be doing with my 60D - one was using H264 & the other RAW.
Personally, i've moved on from DSLRs for video - H264 doesn't cut it anymore & ML RAW workflow, which includes HD space, is not worth the hassle.

Should you upgrade to a 5D3?
It all depends on what you want to do.
If its just video, then there are other cameras out there that have better standard codecs & do RAW properly, with sound, for less money (& you could keep your 60D for photos).

Its a tough choice, but you need to weigh up all the options - there are quite a few cameras out there & new ones coming out all the time.

hey guys, i want to make an anamorphic project in 2k, can someone help me to get the camera to film in 1024x858? that would be 1024 in 1.19 aspect ratio, so when desqueezed i'd get 2048x858.
plus, what is the best build atm? why marrek cleaned up the op?

thanks in advance

keikun007 the current resolutions in the latest build that I have, the closest to 1024 and still get you 2K is 1152 x . 1152 would get you over 2K upon desqueeze. The closest aspect ratio would be 1.21 1.175, from what I can see or 1152 x 960 980. It will get you in the ball park that you want to be in.
Maybe someone has something that could be of more help.

thanks, I was just thinking if it would be difficult to get the exact resolution, the less pixels recording better the time. which build are you using? is the 01/09 still the best option?

and what difference does the new MLV module does to our camera and workflow?

I'm using the 2/05/14 build. The developers and moderators usually advise, I believe, to use the latest build.

Biskop, Inc.-  Very nice. Just a few seconds of video at a clip can yield some pretty nice results.
