FPS override - can raw dng push it higher at low res?
« on: May 21, 2013, 03:01:25 PM »
Am I correct in thinking that (in theory) raw DNG FPS can be increased substantially in low resolutions (480p) for ultra slow-mo? It would be fun to try it :)

I think it's possible(in theory) to take 2,5-3K RAW at 1-2 fps but not possible 480p RAW at 80-90 fps.

It might work at 37fps, where the H264 encoder is not fast enough, but LiveView is still alright. Other than that... no.

I've been wondering the same thing. Any extra fps would be great.

Is opposite could work? Lower fps at hi-res? I'm not a 4K troll, but would be good for 3-4K RAW time-lapse. Yes, silent pics takes more than 1080p but it has some limit like long exposure(at least 1sec.)

And also I tried silent pics with "take pics like crazy", it uses shutter. But 1 second and more it takes silent pics.

It might work at 37fps, where the H264 encoder is not fast enough, but LiveView is still alright. Other than that... no.

It already works, but you can't exceed the resolution of regular DNG silent pics.

(well, you can if move the zoom box around and stitch a few pics...)

I tried shooting at the highest resolution on the 600D  at 12 fps but all the frames came full of pink noise. They're not just noise, the image is there but it's totally ruined...

Right question but wrong place.  Did you adjust White Balance and Tint in ACR?

What's wrong with my question? It's related to the subject. Two or three posts back there's someone asking the same.
I'll ask again and try to explain it better:

Since shooting larger than 1120x434 RAW at 24fps is causing frame skipping I thought that if I decreased the frames per second then I could increase the resolution. With FPS override on 12fps I was expecting to be able to shoot at 1734x694 (or somewhere near that) but the result I get is dng's with pink noise. I said that it wasn't just noise, it's possible to see parts of an image there but it's not usable. It hasn't got to do with post.

I wonder if this is happening to others.
I thought this was a general question, if it isn't then I'm sorry I'll just shut up and move on... :)

Ok. I see that I should have posted in the 600D thread.

Thank you

@ a1ex
Wasn't that an option with the old silent picture mode? I mean that would be really great having it as an option.
Like 2x2 shots (in 5x zoom mode) each time the camera triggers a timelapse shot (like every 4 secs). With a little overlap for getting it easily aligned in post. The best thing would also be 4 different RAW-containers for each quadrant. What do you think?

RAW Silent Pictures need to reach the next step for better timelapse! :-D
