All you people with 5d3s, PLEASE post some examples! I don't understand why everybody keeps posting their crappy 24p tests but I think I've seen only one video shot in 50p RAW (something on a beach but I can't find it anymore). This seems to be a huge improvement in sharpness over the h264 720p. The 50p quality kinda is a decision maker for me to get a 5d3, if I buy one first thing I'll do is post many many example videos ;-)

I got some test in differents resolution and framerates (and with a beautifull model also!), I also did a test with 2 other girls at 1920x500 on 50 fps continuous!, it looks gorgeus, i will post them soon

yes, lovely lady, but soooooo much noise in the background that my eyes hurt.

Why is it not possible to shoot unsquashed?

I have been searching around the forums and found no answer to this.
The only thing I found is a comment by RenatoPhoto
"I dont know if someday we will have 60fps NON SQUASHED image, I am not a DEV."

What is the possibilities for shooting unsquashed and not loosing the quality?

I can't seem to force myself to concentrate on the background. Odd

Oh Sorry, forgot to advice, this was a graded version, I added a film grain. When i get the chance I will upload an ungraded comparison between the H264 and RAW (yup, I got to tell the model to do her thing twice).

DjJuvan

DarienX, that would be great! (aren't the models payed for their acting/posing, even they have to same things over and over again?)

Am I reading this funny or are some of you actually getting 50-60fps continuous without the buffer stopping ?

Someone tell me why I'm dreaming because if this is the case I have no interest in upgrading my camera to any other system ever

With a good CF card 16:9 resolutions up to 1600x560 (resulting 1600x900) is usually continuous at 50/60 fps. Only drawback is the squashed format atm and the resulting quality-loss/aliasing after stretching it back to intended height.

t2scorp

With my Komputerbay 64gb I only get 74MB/s write speed. So 1600x560 @ 60fps is about 550 frames.
What are your settings? @24 fps I get a write speed up to 104MB/s. I'm using build  from 27th of June.

Standard RAW settings, most important thing for me was "Memory Hack" turned on. Make sure to turn camera into "RAW" quality in photo canon settings.

I get 50fps continuous in that setting, your 10fps more for 60 might be the threshold for the buffer. Try 50 to verify. Every Resolution above 1600 isn't continous for me either.

The way I see it, high FPS is much more straining for the buffer. I get 100+MB/s with 24fps and high resolutions, but 50fps I only get about 78MB/s, too. Same card, KompBay 64GB.

I recorded this with 50 fps at the 1728 resolution:

I got a new test with a pretty model and a nice background of my city caracas.

This one was recorded on 1920x500 at 48 fps (continuous) to 60 fps (buffered), which non-squashed was 1920x804, and i think it looks real good!, there is a little bit tiny of aliasing if you check real hard. But I am really happy with the results, much better than the soft-old 720-60p.

PS. Again, this is a colored version, i will put some comparison between h264 and raw soon

Can anyone recommend which card shows the best results with 50/60p RAW?
I'm interested in 720p (after stretch) continuous recording. Ideally I want max performance possible, OFC.
I see that some people use KB 1000x 64GB, some use Transcend 1000x 64GB, thread starter used Lexar 1000x 32GB.
Please help me make the right choice (brand, how much gigs). Thanks in advance.

As i promised, here is the video comparison of working in raw 60 fps to the normal way

The .raw shots in your post are nicely exposed, but it does look like you're overexposing your H.264 shots quite a bit. I know from experience that raw gives a lot more DR, but the H.264 isn't usually quite as bad as it looks in this clip.

Why do you set your exposure so differently in the two modes?

Great work,

jason

I was wondering if someone could explain why you can't record 1920x1080 60fps in 1:1 crop mode?

This is a Canon sensor property that cannot be changed.  Probably to sample the sensor at 60 fps it can only be done skipping some lines therefore the image is squashed, not at full resolution, and with aliasing.

Am able to get continuous recording at 50p 1920x508 (2.35:1 stretched to 1920x818) when i set "small hacks" to ON.
Is the purpose of the "small hack" to help assist with shooting slow-mo?

DarienX

Doing a dinamic range & sharpness test on raw, 48 fps slow motion on 1920x500 (making an streched 1920x800), this time with 2 pretty models dancing and having fun.

Using the 5D3 with a 85mm F1.8 lens
processed on ACR then on vegas and filmconvert

what do you guys think?

Is it possible to get fullHD (1920x1080) 50/60p, when using 3x crop mode or other crop modes???

I do wildlife and I'm thinking in geting one 5DIII do film RAW, but I need 50p in fullHD?

Not possible in cropped mode.  It is a sensor speed issue, to get the 60 fps there is line skipping so no crop mode at 60 fps is available.

Thanks Renato,

Is this sandisk faster than the LEXAR 1000X?

Could I get 50p in fullHD with cards like this?

RenatoPhoto

Probably not 60 fps but maybe 50 fps.  Nobody has tested these cards yet so we dont know what they are capable, or if the camera will be able to use the speed of the card.  With ML format 2.0 and card spanning it may be possible to get 60 fps, but again no tests to prove this yet.

Using card spaning with format 2.0 (mlv files), on 1000x Lexar and 45Mb/s Sandisk SD card, I can get 48 fps continuous at 1920x672 (16:9).  At 50 fps I can get continuous recording at 1920x646 (1.85:1).
