I use Lexar 1000X 32GB

At 1728x606 50 fps, I can get 250 to 350 frames with standard settings.
Continuous recording with hacks enabled.   :)

Thanks! I'll likely be getting the same card, so it's good to know! Have you tried shooting 50p at an even higher res than that at all?

I feel like 1600x544 would be a really good middle ground - scalable up to 1080p without too much quality loss, or scaled down for sharp, over-sampled 720p.

Thanks Renato, what cards are you using?

Played around a little
1728x512 continuously 50fps

1600x544 continuously 50fps

1728x544 continuesly with hacked liveview on 50fps

1600x576 continuously 48fps
1728x544 continuously 48fps

I,m using a transcend 1000x card 64gb

2. It is the standard video, so there is no crop factor.

Just to clarify (I should've specified this in my original question!) - does the FOV/crop factor remain the same (ie the full sensor) regardless of the resolution setting? So is there any FOV differencce between 1280x and 1600x?

There is a cropmark on the screen, it shows the FOV.

At 1920x1080 the image covers the standard full video image of the camera.
At 1280x720 the image is cropped to 1280x720, so the image does not remain the same.  In other words the full image is not re-sized, it is cropped so FOV changes.

Okay - so just like in 1080p mode, the lower the resolution, the greater the crop?

5D Mark III: I´ve seen, at 1920 x 1080 is the size between black bars. I mean, in the white box. There is a crop in relation to the sensor proportion?
So 1920 x 1152 include the entire of the image, 1:1?

I need to know if FULL HD (1920 x 1080) video has the proportion of the image sensor of 5d MARK III.

No, image sensor is aprox. 36x24 mm, aspect ratio 3:2  (information from Canon manual)

1920x1280 (supported by ML) is the (scaled) full sensor.  To use it, set your resolution to 1920 and your aspect ratio to 3:2.  You may or may not be able to record it on a 1000x card reliably.  I've been able to get 1920x1152 to work reliably, but 1920x1280 is more like rolling dice.

I see a few of you are shooting 50FPS - what size has been reliable for us NTSC 60p people?

primemultimedia

Just thinking, I might be way off, but is it possible to record in a squashed/anamorphic aspect ratio to avoid stretching and induce shrinking instead? So instead of recording 16:9 we record 9:16 ( or whatever delivers best results ).

NateVolk

Did some testing today, I think that the digital crop at 1:1 does not squish the 60fps RAW files.  Have to double check my field notes...

All you people with 5d3s, PLEASE post some examples! I don't understand why everybody keeps posting their crappy 24p tests but I think I've seen only one video shot in 50p RAW (something on a beach but I can't find it anymore). This seems to be a huge improvement in sharpness over the h264 720p. The 50p quality kinda is a decision maker for me to get a 5d3, if I buy one first thing I'll do is post many many example videos ;-)

I'm also very interested in 50/60p and replace my 5dII the next few days. I can't promise to make a video within the next week. but I want to test the 50/60p feature

I'll upload a sample soon. The quality is better than the standard h264 1080/24p .. and with a bit of post sharpening, cuts in well with the 1080/24p Raw.

Thanks. I'm really interested in this.

60 fps  :-X

DjJuvan

I would like to some good examples of 1080p/50fps, because anything I tried recording, I get so much aliasing, that it's a useless fotage.

Videoshooter

It's hard to get any real idea of the cameras RAW ability from that clip - it's shot at dusk so the combination of noise and really shallow DOF makes is very difficult to actually judge the resolution.

s---70

yeah, if someone shot a brickwall with it, that'd be great...

DjJuvan, could you show us some of your clips where you get aliasing? If it is really that bad I might reconsider buying a mark 3.

I just found another video shot in 50fps, which looks really good in my opinion. Maybe that's because it was shot at a resolution that only allows 4 second bursts:

jaybirch

I have some test footage coming today, shot at about f11... so you will get an idea of sharpness at deep DOF.
