Thanks for that sample, that's still a significant improvement over the standard Canon image.

Once I get my card here later in the week, I'll host some clips for people to experiment with, if no one's uploaded any yet.

Do you think that the interface can handle 135.3MB/s ( Blackmagic style 2.5K raw @ 2560 x 1320 /24p) if there is a cf x1500 card?

Not all cameras with sd slot can  write on the maximum speed. What it the maximum  write speed to the cf do you think?
Thanks!

Ok, I have posted some frame grabs on first post here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5472.msg36346#msg36346

There is a fair amount of quality loss due to the squashed image, but  it is definitely better that canons.

I don't know if someday we will have 60fps NON SQUASHED image, I am not a DEV.
Thanks for that.
Sure the image is better than the canons but I'm a little concerned about the "stair stepping" at the upper-right part of your example. This had probably caused by "squashing". But may be that's not such a big deal, will see...

I looked at original images.  This is pixelation due to extensive cropping (300%) of the image to show the real details.  It also shows on STD RAW image but gets removed with little Unsharp mask.  While in the stretched mode it does not get removed as much.

Those little hairs are 3 to 4 pixels in width.

Uhm just a stupid question. Why is 60p such a strange crop/stretched? If I choose a low resolution and do 25p it takes a crop in the right aspect ratio, if I select 50p it takes all height? Any reason for that?

Hope devs are taking a good look at this. Anyone have any video samples up ? Anyone tried to scale it to 1080 or would that bastardize the picture too much?

I wonder if the different video editing programs stretch differently. OP, what program did you use to stretch the images you included?

Due to the stretching we need some strange frame heights to come up with 16:9 aspect ratio.  here is a list:

720x400 = 720x 239 (240 stretches to 400 when multiplied by 1.67 aprox)
960x540 = 960x322
1280x720 = 1280x430
1320x740 = 1320x442
1440x810 = 1440x484
1600x900 = 1600x538
1720x960 = 1720x574
1880x1060 = 1880x633
1920x1080 = 1920x645

Ok so if the stretch ratio (1.674) does not change then we could make use of 239, 322,430, 442, 484, 538, 574, 633, and 645 pixels for frame height.

I tried adding this myself but got errors so we need, when time is available, to have some help from our DEVs.

Thanks for all of this wonderful stuff you are providing us.

This is exciting because this could potentially eliminate my insatiable want for 1080p h264 60fps. The 720 60fps raw should be ideal as far as quality goes (hopefully there's a solution for the stretch. devs, halp!). Not too butthurt about moire at 720.

You are Right!  Some of the videos with the current (height) selection are close enough that will require small crops after the stretching.

But there are some of them that could be interesting such us:

1320x740  requires a height of 442.  The closest we have is 360 or 480.

If we chose 360 it does not work because when properly stretched it only gives 600.  So the video aspect ratio is not 16:9
If we choose 480 it stretches to 480x1.674 = 803 and the video is 1320x803 which can be cropped to 1320x740.   BUT!!!!
We are struggling to get the writing speed fast enough to do this, of course depending on card speed.

So we have 1320x740 with 480 as height requires 63.3 MB/sec

While 1320x740 with 442 would require 52.8 MB/s.

If you are developing Hacks to boost the speed, then it would make sense in some of these places to add the need height to lower the required writing speed.

The special cases that I have identified that could benefit from this are:

1280x720  the writing speed would decrease from 61.4 to 55 which is an 11.6% decrease
1320x740  the writing speed would decrease from 63.3 to 58.5which is an  8.2% decrease
1720x960  the writing speed would decrease from 115.6 to 99.4 which is an 16.2% decrease
1880x1060 the writing speed would decrease from 126.3 to 118.7 which is an 6.3% decrease
1920x1080  the writing speed would decrease from 129.8 to 124.6 which is an 4.2% decrease

Given that many struggle for writing speed then this might be worth the trouble.

Thanks for listening

Hey there, this stuff looks very promising! Is there any example video of the 5Dmk3 shooting 60 fps RAW? I've searched everywhere but found nothing.

You have been warned!!!  No more comments like this!!  This is all for real and many people have put thousands of hour of work to make it happen.

Nothing happens when i press the trash button after going back to live view, and what is the M-tab?

It appears that you do not have ML installed.  M tab is the Modules tab where you load RAW video Module.

Go back and read:

RAW video & ML -- Beginners Guide and FAQ -- READ FIRST
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5520.0

Also this is a forum about 60fps RAW video and not a beginners question and answer forum.

Now I am issuing a Warning.

Then why is there no way of donating right now. Think before you post. These guys are working incredibly hard and i assure you its all real!!! continuous full frame 1920x1080 at 24p for 3400... I dont know any cam on the market is doing that. They should be charging never mind donations. Im sorry but that was rude GR. ML and there team is amazing. Ive been shooting raw for a week now. 60fps raw is working too and is better then canon h.264. write speeds and stretching are a little tricky but thats it. THANK YOU ML!!!!!

Finally a 50p example, though it tells almost nothing about the quality.

Hi guy's,

Really interested to know more about the 60p RAW mode, as this could be one of my main reasons for buying a 5DmkIII. Currently I have a 5DmkII & a 60D and have tested the RAW on both of those but now am considering the jump up to the mkIII.

I've read about the stretch factor and that's not really too bothersome for me, though I'm interested to see how many frames people are getting at different resolutions -- say, 1600x900 (1600x538?) for example? I don't need continuous recording, only bursts from 5-15 seconds. Is anybody getting anywhere near this length shooting at resolutions higher than 1280x720 (1280x430)? And how much difference does it make changing the fps from 60 down to 50? I suppose anything upwards of 300 consecutive frames would be useful to me.

Also regarding the crop factor, does the 60p mode use the full sensor area at 1280x430, the same as the the stock h.264 720p60, or does it use only a cropped area of the sensor, like all the smaller frame sizes do in 24p RAW mode? If it's cropped, it would be roughly equivalent to APS-C or super-35 image size, correct?

And one last question - on the 60D, when shooting regular h.264 with Magic Lantern using FPS override, you can over-crank slightly to 65fps. Is this option available on the 5DmkIII with ML, and does it work with RAW shooting as well? Obviously this would increase the write speed but like I said before, I'm only chasing short bursts - and am willing to drop the res below 1280x430 for selected shots if I get a few extra FPS.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

I can get continuing recording with 1600x544 with a 5d mark 3 and 50fps enabled. The picture is much better than with canon h.264 algorithm. I then stretch it back to 1600x864 in after effects. I use a transcend 1000x 64gb card and a 5d mark 3

1. The max I can get at 1600x is 700 to 800 frames at 60 fps with all the cracks enabled.

2. It is the standard video, so there is no crop factor.

3.  I can only get 62 fps with FPS Override cranked to 65

Thanks! I'll likely be getting the same card, so it's good to know! Have you tried shooting 50p at an even higher res than that at all?

I feel like 1600x544 would be a really good middle ground - scalable up to 1080p without too much quality loss, or scaled down for sharp, over-sampled 720p.
