@AndreasK, What is the performance of the 1000x Transcend cards during actual shooting? Is it good enough for shooting 1080p raw or how far up will it go without dropping frames? Thank you!

32 GB Transcend for me is good for full HD 1920x1080 with Global Draw Off... have to lower it a tad if you want to get GD on...

Starts to drop frames at 1920x1280 at about 89MBs with HACK3D you can run 1920x1152 np.

My one unfortunately is not enough for 1920x1080 @24p - even with the 3Dhack it drops 1 frame every ~2 seconds.
Speed is unchanged with or without global draw. In 1928x960 I can get 25p even with global draw on

Thank you all for the info on the Transcend cards!

I'm trying to decide on what card to get for testing RAW Video, as I can't get the Komputerbay cards and Lexar is a tad on the expensive side for now :)

Any insight on the actual shooting performance of the Delkin 1000x cards?

Danne

Thanks everyone for sharing! It seems that komputerbay 64gb is at the top on Alex testchart. Still, there are people telling about problems with the bigger cards. Is there a 64gb that would be "safe" to get in terms of speed and filming in 1080x1920p?
I,m looking at transcend maybe, toshiba? Recommendations?

AndreasK

I bought the Transcend based on the chart but that is for the 32gb. Still it says write speed 120mb/s on the box. Dunno if my one is just a bad batch or if the 32 really is that much faster then the 64gb

Stedda

I have 3 of the 32GB 1000x and they're all within 1-3MBs of each other.... I also have some 600Xs for my 7D that aren't to shabby.

Never had an issue with them and the price is right. I don't trust the Komputerbay cards for a second... I'd rather spend a little more based on all the negative reviews on Amazon.

Any insight on the actual shooting performance of the Delkin 1000x cards?

I could not get above 1920x720 @23.976fps sustained on either the Delkin 1000x 32GB or 64GB CF cards.  Average datarate before dropping frames was 64-66MB/s.  pretty lousy performance for a 1000x UDMA7.  does the 5D3 support UDMA protocol anyway?

I just tested the Sandisk Extreme Pro 32 gb rated at 90m/s

*A quick CrystalDiskMark test gave me a number of 92 Read and 85 write speed
*In ML 1920 x 1080 Raw record it won't go higer than 82-83.

Then I tried the Lexar 64gb 1000 x rated at "up to 150" read and "up to 145" write.

*Same CrystalDiskMark test gave 120 read and 103 write.
*In ML 1920 x 1080 Raw record it is the same at 82-83.
But when trying to do 1920 x 1280 I still only get 82-83..

Sugestions?
I am thankful that Jesus and MagicLantern exist, because they both change lives!

How fast are your 32 in liveview?

Just tried, got the same exact results as in movie.

So you can record 1920x1080 with no dropped frames on the Transcend 32?

dude

Did i understand right that, if you deselect raw pictures or select sraw on canon menu, there are less dropped frames during raw recording?

I can record 1920x1080 24fps with both of my new Transcend 64gb 1000x but there's a little trick. The maximum sustainable speed I get is 82,9 MB/s which is just enough for recording without dropping frames.

When you put these cards on the camera and try to do 1080 24 right away they just won't. Not even recording several files. But, if you record a couple GBs, I go all the way up to 4GB, in 1920x960 and them you switch to 1080 they are just fine after that. I've recorded several 16GB files without a problem. If you switch the camera on/off, you take out the card or you don't record for a couple minutes you might have to warm them up again.

Of course they don't do 1080p 25fps because they max out at 82,9 MB/s. My cards are formated in exFAT (Quick format, 128 bytes units). Global Draw On/Off doesn't seen to affect much (~0,2 MB/s in the worst case scenario, which for these cards you should watch out). The benchmark doesn't show these speeds, though.

My guess is that they need to heat up to work to the peak. So, AndreasK, I hope it works for you too. Let me know how it goes!

EDIT: I'm using last lourenco build (22nd May).

Same build no warm up... I can turn the camera on and within seconds start recording with no dropped frames. Nothing special done to the card... the one I'm using now is fresh out of the package, loaded ML, tested after you had asked yesterday. The other 2 also work the same and they are older.

Seems that the 32gb are more stable than 64gb regarding the transcend 1000x cards?

Stedda

I don't know about more stable but slightly faster... this seems to be the way with most cards.

AndreyM

Hi,

Can you recommend 64 or 128 gb 1000x CF for continious 1920x1080 25p RAW shoting?
As I see most people test 32 gb and there is also information than 32gb faster than bigger size but from practical side 32gb is too small for RAW so 64 or 128 looks better.

P.S. I wonder if anyone heard about SSD to CF adapters. Would be great to be able to connect fast 256-512GB SSD  through adapter into CF slot.

Best Regards,
Andrey
