First question: Do the nightly builds include RAW video. I had read elsewhere that raw video was only in the April alpha release.

Second: Do we need the bootflag to load the magic lantern? Or is it only for development. I read on here that right now the bootflag cannot be removed and so we would need to reload the magic lantern software everytime we use it and cannot upgrade to the higher firmware builds?

Third: If I have a fast sd card and fast compact flash, does it record to both simultaneously?

Thank you and sorry for the confusion.

1. Nightly builds include RAW
2. Yes, bootflag is needed to get RAW
3. Only if use the builds from the new RAW Format 2.0 development.  This spaning function has not been ported to the unified builds i.e. nightly builds

Thank you for the quick and great reply. Is it worthwhile trying out the RAW2.0? I'm going to do a search and see if I can find it. Thanks

We know about how cinematic style are videos when you shot at 24 fps.

As you know, you can set 23,98.

I can't see any difference shooting in both fps, any suggestion about this, or advice?

Thanks.

Too be honest I don't think that it really is that big of deal seeing how little the difference is between 23.98 and 24.
Good footage doesn't make a story any better.

You should use 23.976 if you are going to transfer your footage on the NTSC telecine. Other than that it doesn't matter. Just don't mess with 24 and 23.976 to save your sync.

I wonder, if there is a possibility to turn OFF "force left" option which is now enabled by default (I am using newest builds and trying new stuff every 2-3 days) . Couple months ago when raw rec was in early stage there was such an option. I know, that with this feature ON raw recording performance is better but now, when zoom 2,5K recording is possible and quite usable i would like to minimize 2,something crop by using widest lens possible - im my case tokina 11-16. This lens (and other ultra wide angle lenses) has visible sharpness loss in the corners, recording with "force left" gives beautiful sharp picture in the right side (sensor center) and distorted and muddy in the left. Is it possible to have an option "force left ON/OFF" back again? If it is possible will it allow to record 5x crop with pixels cropped from the sensor center rather than from left-center? Thanks

mlv_rec 30fps with Lexar 1000x 32GB?
« Reply #63 on: February 19, 2014, 09:06:18 PM »
Thanks for "How to" guide!

Is it possible to continuous recording 30 fps for 1920x1080 with Lexar 1000x 32GB?
I use magiclantern-v2.3.NEXT.2014Feb11.5D3113.zip.
mlv_rec module

24/25 fps continuous recording works fine! :)

30 fps (29.97) - the recording time is 9-10 sec.
Is any way to make card more fast? Special formatting?

I also noticed the 32GB Lexar is more fast then 64GB/128GB Lexar cards:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/camera_wb_multi_page7de5.html?cid=6007-12452

raw_rec module show 89-91MB/s
What is bitrate for 30 fps?

1 DNG file is about 3 670 178 bytes
30 fps ~105MB/s
25 fps ~ 87MB/s
Is it correct?

Has audio recording been restored in any builds since september? Searched the forums but wasn't able to find anything conclusive.

Thanks

I have tested two builds:
magiclantern-v2.3.NEXT.2014Feb03.5D3113.zip - no sound module (mlv_snd), no sound in MLV file;
magiclantern-v2.3.NEXT.2014Feb11.5D3113.zip - has sound module (mlv_snd) and sound is in MLV file exist.

==
Upd:
To turn sound ON go in Audio tab and set MLV Sound = ON

Hi Thanks very much Renato for this tutorial, and all the other helpful replies!

However I cannot find the option to change preview to ML, grayscale, hacked. Is this inside the magic lantern menu?

I'm using a Lexar 1000x card, when the Canon video format to 1920 30 fps, and the FPS Override set to 24 fps in Magic lantern, I cannot shoot at a higher resolution than 1920 by 720 without dropping a LOT of frames.

If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be very appreciated.

Many thanks
Marc

I wonder if anyone has problems with audio delay in mlv files. I discovered that the sound is not synchronized in my recordings. I am using canon 5dm3 123 last night build and lexar 256GB 1066x card and 25fps with 1085p resolution . Is it any for me unknown setup? Anu sugestions?

Tried the following, but still its dropping frames on 1920x1080 at 24 fps
Also, it stops recording automatically.

Latest findings to prevent frame drops:

You should check that in Canon Menu:
Image Quality = Raw
Auto Lighting Optimizer = OFF
Long exp. noise reduction = OFF
High ISO speed NR = OFF
Highlight tone priority = OFF
Multiple Exposure = Disable
HDR Mode = Disable HDR

Running some more tests on recording the RAW on 5D mark III.
Discovered that it does not drop frames when set to 2.35:1 aspect ratio.
Which is good for me.

Avdshare Video Converter will take change MP4 file frame rate as an example and it can also serve to change AVCHD, MTS, M2TS, MXF, XAVC, ProRes, MPG, AVI, FLV, MOV, WMV, MKV and almost all video format frame rates
