Updating my 500D from 1.0.9 to 1.1.1

Hey people

I was about to try out the magic lantern software, but needed to update my software on the camera from 1.0.9 to 1.1.1.. So i followed the instructions on the downloaded firmware update.. But my camera is hanging at "Firmware update program" "Loading" and the SD light is constantly lighting red.. How long is it supposed to stay at this spot ? It has been there for 20 mins now and nothing has happened.. Can i safely turn it off or is it supposed to take this long ?

Just for info i managed to get it working.. I pulled out the battery as the whole camera had frozen.. Turning it off by the switch wasnt enough! It wasnt bricked.. ! A second try and i got it working !
