Hello everybody, how are you? We all heard about this great announcement "Raw video on our 5d's", but no of us can say if a 2k 24p raw is possible. The thing which is indisputable is that the Magic Lantern team is working hard on it.

Tomorrow, the 30 april, canon will release their official firmware which will allow an uncompressed prores 4:2:2 8bit, through an external recorder.
Some people downloaded a "leaked" version of it, saying that there is no difference between the H.264 compressed file and the uncompressed one..

canon is making fun of us, and it is not a scoop, but, what are they saying about the fact that, MAYBE, Magic Lantern will find a way to record at 2k 24p raw? Why don't they help you to figure out this feature and make this possible?

We should ask them in person, if someone have a link wher we can directly talk to them, please share, and have a great day all..

Ha!... It looks like the H264 because its all the same data. That raw buffer is turned into the YUV and then the H264.

Guess what... the only difference here is going to be color resolution. And thats why the raw is pretty, not so much luma/chroma discarded nor compressed + only 1 resize process.

Its still going to skip lines no matter what, can't sample the sensor any faster.

Canon isn't making fun of us. These are the breaks of the hardware.

What they can do is enable 422 on the H264 (unlikely unless it was one of their mods to the "generic" TI  encoding IC) or give us MJPEG @ 422 or 444. I think the jpeg encoder should be able to take the raw or the YUV... since it kinda does for photos.

I'd be happy to have a mode that just sampled 1920x1080 in the middle and put up with the crop.  And/or use some decent resampling.
