looking at focal length would be fine too.

Hmm no, I don't think so. Other than in P (or full auto), where you can have different "strategies" of whether to change speed or aperture (or ISO) depending on focal length, distance, whatever, this is in M.
In M you control speed and aperture anyway, according to what suits your subject best, and the only usefull refinement to auto ISO (plus exposure correction) I can think of is having the ability to set upper and lower limits for the automatic ISO range.

öhm, sorry, I mixed up the topics, of course in M this makes no sense,
but in A or T this would be fine...

+1 for this, also setting min and max shutter speeds in Av mode before ISO is decided upon would be ideal!
ML for stills: 5DII, 16-35 f2.8 II, 50 f1.4, 100 f2.8, 135 f2, 300 f4, 1.4X extender.

Is it possible to enable ML-Auto-ISO by setting the Canon ISO-Setting to Auto and not going through the ML-Menu and activate and deactivate?
