When I format my SDHC card in my EOS T3i, it puts a DCIM and a MISC folder on the card, and I can't write to the card.

How do I write the magic lantern files to the card on my macbook?

I could format it with my macbook, but that, of course, would not be formatting it in the camera, which is recommended.

Use the card reader in the MBP. Format in camera and then copy the files from your computer. It doesn't matter if those folders are there. Make sure the write protect isn't switched on on the card.

Also, I have a 2009 MBP and the card slot on it died long ago. The switch that is enabled by the write-protect tab is permanently pressed in. I had to buy another card reader.

I am unable to copy any files to the card, or delete any files from the card. I can copy files from the card to the laptop. But, I tried a Sandisk usb cf card reader, and now I have read and write permission.

So you are right, there must be a problem with my built in sd card reader. I was wondering when I would notice some new problem, since the Apple Care has expired.
