Hi,
I have a vintage Thorens turntable and it is plugged to a phono preamplifier.
I would like to take some video shots of the turntable playing some great records but need a goof sound.
The best (stereo sound) I can get is not from mics but from the line out of the phono preamplifier.
I see many people talking about mice, is there a way to record sound from a preamplifier ? wich cable to use ? won't it damage the 550D ?
Which settings to use ?
Thanks for your help
regards

While Googling "Thorens turntable outputs"  the one image of OUTPUTS look like the turntable has 2 RCA Female jacks for output. So a dual Male RCA to 3.5 mm Mini Jack http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Male-Dual-Y-Cable/dp/B001UG823K not endorsing Amazon, locally you might find it without ordering. Since none of us have one of these record players and you didn't mention the outputs or model number - this is a best guess. Not knowing the Model of the phono preamplifier - or the inputs / outputs, this also applies. Could be a 1/4" jack, but you can find it or add an additional plug size adapter..

Hi, phone and line I/O uses different impedance... That's why most dj mixers have a switch to select the input source .. Line/ phono. I would recommend using a preamplifier or dj mixer with line out... Then you can use a 3.5 plug to RCA cable to connect from the mixer or preamp the the canera (set a low volume in the mixer output).

Regardless of that.. I think that the smartest choice would be using an external sound recorder due to the low quality of the input of the camera... Then just sync in post withe soun of the internal camera mic.
