Hi all,

Hoping you can help. I'm using ML for the first time and have recently bought a RODE Videomic. At the weekend, I'm going to be filming some short interviews with people at a whisky show. All pretty simple stuff, but there will be a lot of background noise, hence the mic. In terms of the setting with ML should they be the below in order to get the best results?

Input source - external stereo
Mic power - on
AGC - off

Will that make sure the RODE is the mic that is used by the camera?

Many thanks for any help!

Mike

As long as input is set to external, you'll be recording from the Rode Videomic.

However, don't expect that you won't pickup any background noise just because it's a shotgun mic. Just watch out for sound reflections depending on your environment. Personally, I would opt for another mic which can be placed as close as possible to the person being interviewed. I have just finished filming some voxpops and I used a similar setup, and had the person asking questions hold a Zoom H1 with a windshield in front of the person being interviewed just out of frame, and sound was much better than that of my on-camera Rode ViMP.
