Hi,

What is the best log picture style to use with a grade in post?
the 1DC has a new pic style called Canon Log, is there something similar?

Thanks

D

The most popular flat picture styles seem to be Cinestyle and Flaat.

Cinestyle:

Flaat:

Here's a good article by Philip Bloom which features quite a good number of picture styles:

I'd recommend either the Flaat or Marvel Cine instead of Technicolor CineStyle. The later one is too flat and can introduce banding in some areas. I've been able to get rid of it by adding a thin layer of grain in post, but if you want clean and free picture, you'll get banding using the CineStyle. More informations/explaination here:

What do you "video" guys think about ProLost?

I've no experience in videomaking, but I'll try soon or later and I like the idea of having it without installing/buy more thing. My needs are of course not pro since I don't yet have even a clear idea of what is the basic workflow in video making. So far my computer can't handle well video file at full resolution made by the camera and I'll wait a new one before trying with video.
I'm using ML2.3 for photography with:
EOS 600DML | EOS 400Dplus | EOS 5D MLbeta5- EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro  - EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM - EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM - 580EXII - OsX, PS, LR, RawTherapee, LightZone -no video experience-

Well, it's the Standard mode in every Canon DSLR, with some settings turned down from Canon's menu. Nothing really amazing. But some (not even those mentioned) people also report that they use and prefer these settings. Try and compare for yourself I'd say, best way to determine which one fits the most your needs.

Yes, I think that for start learning one or another is the same so pro lost will be the first I'll use, since I'll have to put together all what is needed before starting to compare things only by blog.

All you need is the camera, something to shoot and a computer to edit all together. If you need sound, then an external recorder (ideally with a good microphone) would be preferable for optimal sound.
