Hi ALL

I am sorry, I did not check this thread before....I also post a comment about the Magic Lantern on Canon 7D with firmware 2.0.5, see below.

I did first the update 2.0.3 to 2.0.5. After update, I tried to re-install my Magic Lantern. As usually, first on the Compact Flash card (CF) and after this, to start a fictive update again. Also, according to normal procedure. The problem was that as soon as I pressed the button "OK" (for fictive new firmware, in order to start Magic Lantern), the screen become black for ever! Nothing happened. This, two times. After that, I realize that the Magic Lantern for Canon 7D, clearly indicate as been valid only for firmware 2.0.3 since the name of the file is "eos7d-v203-win"! I was never prompted to back-update to 2.0.3! However, since the Canon 7D did not more worked, I must back-update, what, fortunately, was possible! This is a very important point since there are a lot of software which CANNOT be back-updated! In this moment I have 2.0.3 and ML works fine. Now, I would be very glad if somebody from Magic Lantern could inform the Canon 7D users if ML intends to issue a version for 2.0.5 firmware?

Best Regards, Eugene

It certainly does feel like it... would be cool if instead they fixed exfat support and the like.

* also anyone have a backup of 2.0.3 unmodified/stock fir? Canon pulled it off their site already.

g3gg0

pel is currently trying to get 7D to work with 2.0.5, but this would take some time.

I shared the code that I've made for the new 2.0.5 platform because I'm not at home so I cannot test it myself...

I found another mirror of 2.03 as well so in case a downgrade is required:

Did it look like much changed in the fw? I have to load it up.

Eugene

Yes, I have it (backup of 2.0.3 unmodified/stock fir)

I just wanted to jump in here and say how awesome Magic Lantern on the 7D is.  I'm shooting time lapses like a fiend now.  Thanks to everyone for all their hard work, and I eagerly look forward to future developments.

I am about to install the ML firmware for my Canon 7D. I am at Canon version 2.3. Any gotchas or tips that I should be awre of before proceeding? I would install this alpha2 version on an Extreme 16GB CFII card.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry meant firmware version 2.0.3.

You have to decide: Tragic Lantern offers more features, ML nightly has not all features implemented (yet).

Any news when the dottune module will be avaible for the 7d?

[edit] nevermind, was able to use the dot_tune.mo from the 5d3 nightly build :) awesome work, thanks

Jasonroberts

does anyone know if i can put magic lantern on my 7D if my firmware is the new 2.05?

walter_schulz

Downgrade your cam's firmware to 2.0.3.

ianwebb66

I am a newbie with my 7D and ML and have tried to go through the process of first time install on card..but as all newbies...failed......  :-[

Installation
1) Update camera firmware to 2.0.3 - Yes " Canons own Version "
2) Format your CF card from the camera - Yes
3) Extract contents of ML .zip into your card's root folder - Yes " magiclantern_7D_203_Alpha2 "
4) Upgrade firmware - yes from downloaded firmware for 7D out of ML 7D zip.
5) Used EOScard1.40 as well.

But does not have a autoexe file for booting...
anybody got any ideas....as i have rechecked forum...and im still not certain..

I am most likely using the incorrect download file and wrong install method...

Walter Schulz

If you don't have an AUTOEXEC.BIN file in the root directory of your card - after using EOScard *and* extracting files - I suppose your explorer settings are hidding them. It is highly unlikely using two different methods producing exactly the same error.

Redo the EOScard utility method once more and follow instructions.

1-4 will fail to get you a bootable card. EOScard will do.

Ciao
Walter

Installing ML can be summarized in three steps, keep this in mind in case you are getting lost in the process!

1. You need to set the bootflag in your camera.

2. You need to make your SD card (or CF for some cameras) bootable with EOScard

3. Only then you can use the nightly builds.  http://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/
Copy the files to the new SD card from 2.

-----------------------------

You are having troubles with step 1

I dont know where to get the special file to set the bootflag in the 7D, but I do know how to make it!

Follow the steps here:

Hello,
I have updated my firmware to 2.0.5 version and then found out the ML alfa 2 doesnt run on he newest version. And I couldn't find the older one even googling it and surfing for hours. Please, does any of you have the 2.0.3 version (Win) saved somewhere by any chance?

Thanks a lot.

Ondrej

Your camera may brick so DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

You have to follow these steps in order to try the Audionut ML build and the dual iso module:

You'll Need This Files:

7D firmware v1.2.3 http://pel.hu/down/eos7d123.exe (Thanks to Pelican)
EOScard software http://pel.hu/down/EOScard.exe (Thanks to Pelican!)
EOS Utility 2.8.1 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43043701/EOS.zip
patch.bsdiff https://ml-devel.googlegroups.com/attach/1608f00c71abc464/patch.bsdiff?part=6
bsdiff.exe and bspatch.exe http://download.pokorra.de/coding/bsdiff_win_exe.zip

Enabling Bootflag:

Unzip the bsdiff_win_exe.zip file in any folder. In my case i extracted to a folder in my desktop C:\Users\Miguel\Desktop\Magiclantern\
Double-Click eos7d123.exe and unzip it in the same folder. It should extract the 7d000123.fir file in the folder.
Place the downloaded file patch.bsdiff  in the same folder
Open "cmd" by pressing WindowsKey+R and typing cmd
In the cmd screen change the directory by typing cd "folder where you put the files", in my case it was cd C:\Users\Miguel\Desktop\Magiclantern\
Type bspatch.exe 7d000123.fir firmware.fir patch.bsdiff and press enter
It should generate a file called firmware.fir that we are going to use with EOS Utility.
Copy the firmware.fir file to an empty CF card and put the card in your camera.

Extract EOS.zip in some other folder. In my case i extracted to C:\Users\Miguel\Desktop\Magiclantern\EOS Utility\
For me it worked well but is possible that this EOS Utility wont work because of some missing driver or registry key, so make sure you have installed any Canon EOS DIGITAL Solution Disk before.
Connect the camera to the pc via usb cable.
Go to the folder that you've extracted EOS.zip and double-click EOS Utility.exe *
Click Camera Settings/Remote Shooting option. Make sure your camera dial is in M mode and Liveview turn off.
In the middle of the window click the icon that looks like a cross and a tool, between the Lightning/Flash icon and the Star icon.
Click Firmware Ver. 2.0.3 at the bottom of the list.
Click OK and Select the firmware.fir file from the first folder. Click OK Again.
Wait until is done. **Be very Careful**

Installing ML:

Now put the CF card in your computer. Delete the firmware.fir and the other files.
Open EOScard.exe, click EOS_DEVELOP, BOOTDISK, right-click the ML icon, select Ports in progress and click 7d 2.0.3 alpha2.
Wait until is downloaded and click Save in the upper right corner.

DONE!

This build already contains the Dual Iso Module, It is not enabled by default and you can enable it for testing but some people are having issues with the module so do it at your own risk.

* If the Camera Settings/Remote Shooting option is greyed out follow this steps:
Go to Device Manager by pressing WindowsKey+R and typing devmgmt.msc
Expand the Portable Devices tree and Disable all of them except Canon EOS 7d by right-click - Disable.

Feel free to ask anything, i'll try to answer as soon as possible. Excuse my english :D
