It is a lot of cable to run around with if you use the original canon usb phono cord and a phono to mini jackadapter and mini jack head  phones. Are there any alternatives? What do you guys use?

Sescom makes a cable specially for this. Or if you are handy with a soldering  iron you can chop up your canon cable.

I chopped mine up. Easy Peasy. Rather and try and solder those tiny pins on the jack . I twisted and soldered wires together from a 4 pole jack that I have for my monitor. Works now with my analog TV and my Fii0 headphone amplifier.

just sharing my own made cable, besides the original canon cable that had to cut, just spent 5€ in the jacks, the rest was just solder. :)
