Hi, I have bought a second-hand EF17-40 f4 L lens and was hoping to do a bit of focus stacking, however ML says " Your Lens did not report focus distance"   :(
The ML wiki suggests that this lens should report the focus distance.
Does anyone have any experience with this lens?
Any pointers would be really appreciated!
Many thanks.

-The issue could be down to my inexperience with M.L rather than the (my?) lens having a problem.
I have looked at the exif data from a few pics and, for example, from a close focussed shot it says :
Focus range- Not known
Fous distance upper- 0.28m
Fous distance lower -0.28m
Hyperfocal distance- 20.94m

The camera body is an EOS Kiss X5 (the same as a 600d?)

Have you update the lens info in your canon software? You should have the cromatic and color aberration working in you camera. i hope this help you.  Have te same lense and no problem.

There is no guarantee that a lens' firmware is the same between production runs. Someone's previous experience might not be the same as your own.

Thanks everyone - I had best go and try out a new lens in a shop!
-Very annoyingly (and as far as I can see) my exif data contains more range information than the other 17-40 photos that I have found on the web, but maybe that is just a reflection of the body.

Oh dear - I should have mentioned that I was new to ML:
The lens is absolutely OK; I simply hadn't switched into LiveView mode!
