MRAW and SRAW
« on: November 08, 2012, 12:09:38 AM »
Ok, I found the picq toggler and enabled it.

On 600D: MRAW is reported as 7776x1296. Says 10MP Plays back fine in camera and so far in FS viewer. 11-19MB
SRAW - 2592x1728 reported size. 8-12MB a pop. Plays back OK... actually has the icon when pressing info in the player.

Lightroom shows no love... trying gimp/UFRAW next.

Canon Pic selection is pink and all funky but who cares. So far no ill effects.

Ok, sraw converts just fine but MRAW says there is data corruption... probably size is set incorrectly and UFRAW doesn't let you change that. The image is there but all screwed up like bad magic zoom because of incorrect dimensions.

Have to figure out whats wrong. The sraws don't seem to look that good. Mraw comes out bigger than it should.

You can try it out:

No problems like that so far. Canon quality selection menu gets pink/wonky while its selected. Ive shut down and started up with sraw selected and no err70s or the like.

My theory is different - the corrupted displays are a clear sign of things like buffer overflows. I'm not confortable trying it on my own cameras.

I highly recommend you to read this: http://marcansoft.com/blog/2011/01/safe-hacking/

Well... Okay, then i don't know if I would try it out...
Can't afford a new camera in years :/

Though I'm pretty familiar with code, I'm not familiar enough with hacking of devices and I don't understand a lot of things with this good enough, so that I'm just not brave enough to try :(

Your choice. I should post some of the files and maybe others can figure out what is up. Already tried it without any damage multiple times but other cameras, who knows.

For the record, I've spent two hours to unbrick my 5D Mark II after playing with this setting (picture quality). Also I've unbricked another 5D Mark II of a user who tried the picture quality hack via a USB controller app (see FAQ for links).

Until we'll have a straightforward method to recover a camera from bad settings, I strongly advise you to stay away from these things.

to me it seems prudent.
