If the LCD backpack can be used for monitoring I wonder how long it will be before someone rips one of these apart and retrofits a lens mount?  ;)

Shoots with a flat profile at 4k (fairly useless 15fps) but 2.7k up to 30fps and full HD 60fps

QuoteAdditionally, it can capture 12-megapixel stills at a rate of up to 30 per second
( http://www.gizmag.com/gopro-hero3-actioncams/24602/ )

So the bottleneck is probably the real-time encoder and card speed, not the sensor.

I think the stills is limited to 1 second bursts

Doesn't say what the BR is anywhere?

I presume it's still H.264 or maybe (hopefully) Cineform?

H.264 http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero3-black-edition#specs

I wonder what the actual sensor is too

The Bacpac description is a bit ambiguous regarding monitoring http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/lcd-touch-bacpac but if this can attach then maybe there are pinouts for HDMI or something

I wonder how much hero 3 differs from the original hero.

Heard of the new GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition ?
It captures 4k video with 12 fps / 2.7k with 30 fps. Amazing for a camera this size/price in my oppinion.

yeah that's extreme. but the downside is the poor video quality. i'd rather have a better sensor and better colors than a huge resolution
If you donate a RED EPIC to me you officially are very cool ;)

I would be very happy if my 7D could produce such a poor quality 1080p60 video....
