Canon EOS M having a lot of red noise ?
« on: September 11, 2022, 08:14:14 PM »
Hi everyone!

Absolute beginner / newb here so please be humble.
Picked up a EOS M the other day to start out with the Magic Lantern adventure.
Getting to know the camera, settings and everything I did a small little test indoors.
Opening the file in MLV App gave me quite a different result than I was expecting (seeing what was on my real-time preview)
Here is a screen capture taken from MLV App - https://freeimage.host/i/PuoQte

Camera: Canons EOS M
Lens: Canon EF-M18-55m f/3.5-5.6 IS STM + UV Filter (can the filter be the problem ?)
Mode: 2.5k 2520x1418
Resolution: 2096 x 1180
Frame Rate: 23.976 FPS (Override)
Focal Length: 18mm
Shutter: 1/54s,
Aperture f/5.6
ISO: 3200
Bit Depth: 10 bits (my current SD Card sucks)

Any more info needed let me know!

3200 ISO ... https://photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm#Canon%20EOS%20M
Reduced DR, 10 bit and trying to have a red object covered (only 1/4 of sensor sensels is used for red)

Recipe for noise galore.
Get a faster lens and just remove the filter.
