In old times - with devs well versed in ancient codebase around - there was some kind of Occam's razor in place: If it can be done in post there is no use to implement it wasting sparce dev time.
If there are really, really good reasons not do it in post but in cam you had to fight your case.
Today ancient codebase (50D and others) is quite a wasteland and you will have troubles finding someone to mess with it.
Again: Give a real good use case or your feature request.
