Frame rates and Canon EOS R5
« on: October 07, 2021, 07:06:33 AM »
Greetings from Perth.

I'm new to ML so please forgive me if I've missed answers to similar questions in the forums ... slowly going through them now but this message might get me the answers faster.

Questions

1. I have particular requirements for a dedicated camera rig (a camera pair). The Canon EOS R5 would be ideal if I could dial up slower frame rates in 8K mode, say, down to 1fps. Are there any technical reasons why this might not be possible?

2. It would also be advantageous if I could select a narrower vertical pixel range. So for example, 8192 wide by 500 pixels high. Again,  are there any technical reason why this might not be possible? If possible, is it also then possible to proportionally increase frame rates, nothing excessive but 60fps or 120fps would be nice.

3. What is the road map for supporting the Canon EOS R5.

4. Are there developers for hire that could quote/work on this for me? (1) is a requirement, (2) would be highly desirable. Happy to be contacted directly, or through this forum. (email: paul.bourke@gmail.com)

3: ML project does not work with timelines, milestones, schedules, road maps. If someone works on a particular cam it is completely up to devs pace how the progress goes on

4: Project members discussed how donations could be handled ... in the future. One point coming up: It is legally critical if donations are bound to a particular purpose. It looks like non-dedicated donations to the project is the way to go. Resulting in: donors can have absolutely no say in how their donation may be used.

Or in short: ATM nobody is working on R5. My old saying applies: If there is no ML for your camera today act like there will be no ML for your camera ever.

The R5's internal intervalometer can shoot at one second intervals in raw or jpeg.  An external intervalometer might allow shorter intervals.

Why not just crop into the frame in post?

1.
2.

Technically should be possible, why these things aren't in EOS R5 that's because Canon hasn't implemented it.

Why not just crop into the frame in post?

paulbourke is asking for 8192x500 in higher framerate than 30 FPS such as 60/120 FPS.
