How do I get the 5D MK II to output 1620x911 over HDMI?

I've ready various places that ML can make the 5D MK II output 1620x911 over HDMI, but I can only get 640x388 out of my 5D, which is on the latest 2.1.2 firmware and ML build (July 2018).

Can someone point me to step-by-step instructions on how to enable 1620x911 HDMI output? Does this feature require a different firmware or build?

Thanks.

ATM there is no ML option to enhance HDMI resolution. You may ask those people claiming otherwise how to do this.
Or you misunderstood.
Connect your camera to a TV set or a monitor and check HDMI resolution while idle.

HDMI 1080i (1650x1080 60i ->23.976p) has been a feature seen at least 2013.

In short 5D2 can output 1650x1080 60i 4.2.2 uncompressed (1500MB/s or 1.5Gb/s) from the HDMI , this a default setting
in magic lantern . If you are getting 720x480 , then you have the "Force HDMI to VGA" enabled .
FYI : you can record 1080 60i (HDMI) & raw video (3x3) 1880x1250 at the same time with mlv_rec or mlv_lite
I do this all the time with my HDMI Ninja Hard Drive Recorder (ProRes) & my AJA Kona Lhi Capture Card.
If this does not work , then you have some setting not right , it should work out of the box without any problems.
Make sure you have the latest ML build or my Crop_Rec experimental builds https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19336.msg182476#msg182476
I know for sure it work with it . If you what to get 1620x911 then you will have to crop it in a video editing software

It's possible that I have a wrong setting, but "Force HDMI to VGA" is disabled.

Do all 5D ML versions have 1650x1080 HDMI output, or just the 2013-2014 builds?

Do you have to be recording RAW to get 1880x1250 HDMI output, or can I just enable RAW video in ML settings and get 1880x1250 HDMI output while not writing anything to the CF card?

I've experimented with various "clear overlays" settings and even tried enabling RAW video, but no matter what, OBS only recognizes 720x480. I suppose this could be an issue with OBS or my cheap capture card, but I think it's more likely that something is set wrong in the ML menu.

A step by step Sticky on this would be useful, as many people might want to use their 5D as a webcam with a capture card, because the EOS Webcam utility doesn't support the 5D MK II, a least last time I checked.

Replace capture card.
ATM there is nothing ML can do about HDMI output and it doesn't matter if cam is recording or "idle". Exception: Lower to VGA.
For streaming latest lua_fix build is recommended. You can disable 30-minute timer via Prefs tab -> PowerSave in LiveView -> 30-minute timer Disabled

Hi!
After a while the mirror goes up.
Even if the 5dii stays on.
Any way to avoid that and keep streaming?
Ive read about sticky shutter but when I enable that option then There is a red HS on the screen.

Thanks!

Thanks!
Can I get rid of the grey bars and get a real 16/9 display when streaming?
And you mean the latest build has lua fix?
Or should I enable anything in ML?

Walter Schulz

Top of page -> Downloads -> Downloads (Drop down menu) -> Experiments -> Latest Lua updates + fixes

lambertcolson

Thank you!
Seems stable now with the latest "Lua build"
What is it exactly? What is intended for?
I see there are no possibility of raw recording with this mode.

Modules tab -> MLV_REC.mo ON -> Restart -> Movie tab ...

I might not understand some of your speech because I use google translate
If your camera 5D3  version is 1.1.3, HDMI doesn't work, you need to upgrade to 1.2.3. This happened to me in 5D 3
