Anyone know how to disable H264 MOV files from splitting up into 4GB files? It doesn't do it on the M2 but I can't seem to get the M to keep it in one big file. Its very important for my ongoing project because I will have way too many files between 4 cameras. Thanks

Are you sure M2 doesn't use file chunking? Because it would be the only Digic 5 cam doing so.
Digic 4 code stops if record size reaches 4 GB.
The Digic 5 cams I know will always do file chunking. Regardless if card has Exfat file system or not.

Not taking shots with adapter mounted:
C.Fn IV 7:

Lexar Pro 1000x is an UHS-II card. This card will run in UHS-I compatibility mode. I can only recommend not to use it.

Lockups: Most likely you took a card which was prepared for ML (= bootable) and wiped autoexec.bin. Cam will lockup and FAQ/Install Guide will tell you not to delete autoexec.bin!

Thanks Walter, ordered a new SD extreme Pro 90MB to test on! Is there a relevant post/topic on remedying my hanging issue? Is it merely go back, install ML and ensure the ML contents do not get tampered with and the card stays constantly in cam?

I don't know man. I just know I can record one big H264 file on the M2 with ML, but I can't seem to do it on the M. I have recorded video on the M2 a few times now and let it go until the SD Card ran out and it was one big file for H264. Both cameras I used a card with exFat.

Use the black ones. 95mb or 170mb.

Done and done. Thanks for the help and the hard work you put into the build! I'll report back any issues

@all: Anybody else having such "drop-out" problems with Extreme Pro?

Could you clarify what "drop-out" means to be exact?

Indeed, both black 95MBs & 170MBs have been remarkable thus far @Kgncom!

I don't think there is a difference other than the label.

He means what I described earlier, the write speed taking a nose dive during recording and not coming bac to the faster speed. Doesn't seem like you have had the problem tho otherwise you would've complained like me. I got my new 90MB SD ExPro card and will load ML to test.

There is no Sandisk Extreme Pro rated for 90 MB/s. It's either "Extreme 90 MB/s" or "Extreme Pro 95 MB/s". If it is an "Extreme 90 MB/s" maximum write speed (without overclocking) may be between 50 and 80 MByte/s. There are several different versions around and they are not always advertised correctly. denizza

Hello, I like canon eos m so i will buy him, so sorry for noob question but is possible record with ml full hd 60fps? and full hd raw is possible right?

2blackbar

denizza you can record 60fps with h.264 codec, with RAW you can record at 46fps maximum.
You can record RAW at almost full hd 1736x976 and you can resize it to 1920x1080.
Then you can get into crop mode so its like 16mm camera field of view, in this mode you can record RAW at 2520x1054 and also 1920x1080.
Definitely buy M, its like a miracle camera.AT this price is amazing what it can do, they only downside is that you cant use it as usb camera, i mean you can if you have video grabber , hdmi works and composide video over usb works too.
Check this out and his channel, lots of info:

Thanks @2blackbar
So I will buy used, is price about 150eur oke with kit lens 18-55? And do you know any problems with camera general, what should I check before buying?

2blackbar

kit lens is 45 body around 100 used is fair , i have it since2012, not a single issue, theres no mirrormechanism , which can fail on dslrs.and fails on my 5d2
its really great compact beast.
also buy focal reducer like viltrox to get more fov and more light in the dark with lenses
im considering buying second white one

fayfray i have canvas go 64gb kingston sdxc and 128gb sandisk extreme pro microsd in adapter, red/black.
first is a bit slower, second one ia great.but both are very similar in speed.
that canvas go is cheapest i could find.i have no idea about the one you linked but find some writespeed tests for it and compare with that canvas go speed,but... come on spend 5 bucks more and get canvas go

Frayfray

@ 2blackbar
i was curious because they had this in stock in local store ,walmarts usually are open 24hr pre cov-19 and if your in a bind one can pick one up anytime,i bought like 15 cards before they were pny Elite-X on my 5ti i get 28 mb/s 128gb card and 33mb/s on 32gb micro sd ,thought it had some thing to do with the adapter but after trying several same results i just bought the eos m and wanted to try sd cards instead micro ,i think onn. cards are made by PNY cause the specs are almost identical to the elite -x cards and walmart stop carrying pny cards. i will try some SanDisk Extreme PRO recommended by zeek only ten bucks more thank you for your suggestion

2blackbar

Yeah, its better to buy tested cards not unknowns cause there are some technical specs that are hidden , cards have to be tested to see whats the real life writing speed, not "on paper" writing speed .I did a lot of digging and browsing tests before i picked mine.
I think that Sandisk is a good choice. Also my 128GB is in reality 116 GB

Storage manufacturers count GByte = 1000 MByte = 1000 x 1000 kByte = 1000 x 1000 x 1000 Byte.
Programmers count GiByte = 1024 MiByte = 1024 x 1024 KiByte = 1024 x 1024 x 1024 Byte

Translates 128 GByte = 128 000 000 000 Bytes = 119.2 GiBytes. Still some 3 GiByte missing ...

That is why a 3 TByte disk will show up with 2.72 TiByte in your computer.

If calculating recording duration you have to use 128 GByte = 122060.8 MiByte because ML will use MiByte/s.

Hi everyone!
Is there a way to record in 16:9 aspect ratio when using the 2.5k mode, i selected 16:9 and my recordings had a 2.35 aspect ratio (2520x1080).

Thanks

If the maximal size is limited, crop the width.

Danne

16:9 possible on all presets. Only select 16:9 from Movie tab menu, not from raw video menu.

Hi Masc, thanks for your suggestion, it would crop a lot. In the movie tab on ratio i left it at off and in the raw video submenu i selected 16:9 that resulted in 2520x1080 (2.35 aspect ratio), if i select 2.35 the end resolution is the same, but if i select 16:9 ratio in movie tab and 16:9 on raw video sub menu it will record in 1920x1080 but with a width crop (what you were suggesting), i was hoping i would get a wider field of view like the 2580x1080 FOV... its a crop of a zoomed crop. Will play with these settings and see what i can do. Thanks to everyone keeping Magic Lantern alive.

Thanks Danne, i was writting the reply while you posted yours. will try it your suggestion, if i want to record 16:9 on 2.5k mode i need to select 16:9 on movie tab and what in the raw sub video menu? 16:9 as well?

This is what you get - you understood correctly. There are 2 different 2.5K modes. One brings 1920x1080, the other 2192x1234 for 16:9 ratio.
