Good. Also upload a small mlv sample file with the issue in question.

Yeah i did, im looking for some info how to do focus pixels map myself so i dont have to bother him.
Found something here  https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=16054.msg207474#msg207474
and posting for myself later mlvdump with gui to work faster https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19460.0
aaand dcraw gui http://meguidcraw.blogspot.com/2009/07/descarga-download.html
Well, it appears that 1808x1108 focus pixel map is for my particular file but it still doesnt work, is there any way to fix this in cam? I can clearly see focus dots disappear for hal second when i exit ML menu so it(disabling focus pixels) is something thats already being done by ML with menu exit function. Why not making it a feature to turn on/off for manual focus lenses?

Dutchflyingpilot

I noticed when using MCM Rewire the HDMI 480 (lo-res) output stopped functioning (I use a Feelworld 4k monitor).
HDMI 1080 works just fine, so no problem there, but you loose Magic Zoom and that's a pitty I think.
Focusing is much harder now. Is there a fix?

Danne is there any way that i could get different pattern of focus pixels so MLVapp would be able to remove them ?
The ones i currently have are having some issues:
https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=16054.new#new
Id rather change something in camera in the future so it would be possible to remove my focus pixels, i also by accident got different patern of focus pixels in ML, it was something like this but i cant turn it on again:

I would like to change something in camera so dfort focus pixels map would work on my future cinemascope 1736x738 footage.I think its smarter this way instead of having every situation covered , just make camera show focus pixels in a pattern that is known to be removable.

Danne

It´s not clear to me what exact setting was used. Could you share me your whole SETTINGS folder inside ML folder?

Was it mcm rewired set to 2.35:1?
Only reduced to 12bit from Crop mode sub menu or any other changes?
Need to know exact set up to reproduce so sending the SETTINGS folder should be best.

2blackbar

no it was not rewired it was the one above it, 1736x1158 under Q settings were 12 bit and 2.35:1 ratio.
raw video settings were
res 1736x738
aspect 2.35:1
14 bit lossless
preview frozen lv
In canon menu AF method - flexizoneAF⟁
My settings folder

What focus pixel pattern do You have on your canon M in the same mode ? Can you record in cinemascope 1736x738 and then remove focus dots in MLVapp ? If yes then could you share your settings folder so i could adapt my cam? Maybe theres something wrong here in my cam because this format is quite popular.

Danne

Thanks.
Frozen liveview? Why using that?
Anyway. Try using the mcm rewired mode and set it to 2.35:1 and 12 bit in Crop mode sub menu. Should work better with real time and perfectly aligned liveview.

2blackbar

Because i had pink frames when using framing preview and now i have 0 pink frames if i use this black/white preview. Also its mostly because of histogram. This mode works ok with histogram on.framing mode gives pink frames with histogram on, unless there would be an option to disable histogram during recording , i mean histogram is not on screen when recording but disabling it and switching to blackwhite view made pink frames thing of the past for me, i dont really need anything besides properly cropped image on screen but using kill global draw removes cropmarks for cinemascope, i would like them on and everything else gone when im in framing mode recording .
Ill do as you say and will try to remove pixels again in mlvapp.

optical-work

i don't know if relevant but it was mentioned that mcm rewire mode doesn't work with bit options in crop mode sub menu. must be set in raw video sub menu if needed.

Danne

Other way around. You set it in Crop mode sub menu.

2blackbar

Love You man ! It worked and i dont have any focus pixels when i use rewire, :D
But i see histogram :) can i disable it during recording and have it only when previewing? It will get me pink frames

Danne

Nice.
I guess you need crop marks still on. Will have a look tomorrow.

2blackbar

Also one interesting thing i noticed is that i have one red pixel on my liveview and it gets recorded on the raw video, this is not dead pixel, it does not appear when i remove card with magic lantern and it does not appear in photo mode.
What is it ?
http://picplus.ru/img/1904/07/c66d3869.png
From my tests it looks like it appears when i turn on rec crop mode, rewire or the one above, i turn off this mode and press canon menu button, back to liveview and pixel is gone.
Or is it dead pixel hidden by canon ?Id prefer it to be hidden .

dfort

If this is the image you are pointing to -- could please point out the red pixel? I don't see it.

A while back I wrote a post on how to add dead/hot/whatever pixels to a focus pixel map file and Danne wrote another post on how he got rid of his "three hot friends" in camera.

Danne

Probably more dead pixels in there if I would remove this:
https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9741.msg212680;topicseen#msg212680

Oops. Noticed dfort already linked.
In mlv_app select fix for cold pixels or similar.

2blackbar

So i do have even more dead pixels and camera is hiding them while mcm rewire partially shows how they really look like ?
Is it possible to hide the ones i have as well with another tweak to cmos 4?
I tried removing it in mlvapp its not working, maybe if there would be an option to select it manually.

Danne

In your provided example I can´t see any dead/hot/cold pixels so before I can see anything it will be hard. Try getting a clear example of the issue.

2blackbar

Its this one

The stuck pixel is here

flickr compression kills it so its not visible.
Also i didnt had it onscreen before i tried last build, and before that i had 12 february and a couple other builds.
Why the pixel wont show up if i disable croprec ?

Danne

2blackbar

I tried chroma blur 3x3 and its gone but im wondering why it disappears when i disable croprec ? Id prefere not to use chroma blur if i dont have to because it destroys some saturation data and colours look quite bland.

AF-OFF

just quick tested Danne's new April09 build.
looks good, tested the new 2.5k 1:1 preset, and the MCM preset. Nice! no corrupt frames

Anyone looking for cheap and sufficiently fast card please look here -

Show us some examples.

I've heard this so many times yet when I compare files processed with and without chroma smoothing there's very little difference, certainly not enough to avoid using it when it helps get rid of those last few stubborn focus pixels.

BTW--I first got into compiling ML because I wanted to use the chroma smoothing feature in raw2dng to remove the focus pixels from my EOSM and the only way to get it was to uncomment one line and compile it.

modules/lv_rec/raw2dng.c
/* useful to clean pink dots, may also help with color aliasing, but it's best turned off if you don't have these problems */
//~ #define CHROMA_SMOOTH

2blackbar

Chroma blur does not work for focus pixels Daniel but it works fine for red stuck pixels, maybe also because of the fact that its just one.
I was doing som color correction and used chroma blur on chroma sharpness in mlvapp ,then noticed my dark areas arent so saturated anymore.

More green one is the one with chroma smooth, i dont like how it looks, cyan tone disappeared.Maybe example that i had a couple dauys ago was change from green to kinda brownish tone in shadows which could appear like loss of colour, but it definitely affects the colours.

dfort

Really? My eyes must be getting old. Which is which? I really don't see what you are talking about. Might help if you exposed properly or put a color chart in the shot or...well, let's take a look:

I think that some very minor chroma smoothing image degradation might be real but there's also quite a bit of emporer has no clothes phenomena going on here.

2blackbar

Daniel i think i spent a lot of time on color correction and im a painter so i detect color changes in darks and bright areas faster than people who dont paint, i can clearly se that shadows are lacking blue tint in top example , bottom one has blue/gree tone that id like to preserve, its the main reason i swtiched to raw, because regular colorspace for h264 wont let us to bring these colours out so easily.
top image is green on dark walls , bottom one is cyan.
