Altering shutter/sequence to eliminate lag, can this be done with ML?

Hello,
Looking around the forums and a well known search engine didn't yield any useable results, please excuse me if I missed something.
I'd be interested to know if ML can alter the normal sequence of taking a picture to something like the this:
First press of release button takes a picture for selected exposure time normally, except that the shutter is NOT actuated and stays closed.
If shutter release button is pressed a second time while that exposure is active, the shutter is opened for 1/125s , flash fired, exposure ended and the picture recorded.

Basically, all the tasks causing shutter lag are done on the first press, second one only takes the actual image by tripping the shutter. With old SLRs one would solder some leads to the shutters magnets and operate them with a simple uC or even discrete logic but modern DSLRs probably wont like such crude treatment.

It would be of tremendous help if ML could provide such functionality or at least the option to write a module/script doing so.
