Starting with a hand-me down T4i/650D and a 128GB SD card running firmware 1.0.1 I did the following:

  • Verify I didn't get clean HDMI output already (the only reason I wanted to install this)
  • Camera format the card (not low level format)
  • Copy 1.0.4, 1.0.5 and magichat firmware to the camera
  • Install 1.0.5 and see no clean HDMI output
  • Downgrade to 1.0.4
  • Try to install magiclantern. Fail and remove battery as it told me to
  • Reset camera settings
  • Try to install magiclantern. Fail and remove battery as it told me to

Here is how the files are laid out:

Make sure to have matching firmware version (installed on cam) and ML build version.
Remove CC*.FIR from card.
Retry ML installation. Make a pic/vid of the "failure" during installation process.

Support staff loves error messages and tend to bang heads on keyboards hearing "it doesn't work".
