Focus feedback for Photographers and Videographers
« on: August 27, 2020, 11:52:50 AM »
After many experiments trying to find the ‘best’ way to show focus information, eg for setting infinity and focus bracketing, I’ve finally settled on integrating things into the ML bars.

This latest version of my Depth Of Field Ibfo Script (DOFIS) has been tweaked for use by photographers and videographers and covers all my DoF ideas, as well as incorporating exposure bracketing, with and without focus bracketing.

Simply, DOFIS is the only focus tool you need to use.

You can read about DOFIS and download the script here: http://photography.grayheron.net/2020/08/dofis-just-gets-better-and-better.html

As usual I welcome feedback on DOFIS.

As you will see in this post (http://photography.grayheron.net/2020/08/dofis-now-diffraction-aware.html) I decided to add in a diffraction aware feature into DOFIS.

Enjoy!

In this post I show how you can register your own lens in DOFIS: http://photography.grayheron.net/2020/08/dofis-registering-lens.html

In this post I show how to use DOFIS to achieve perfect focus bracketing.

Plus the DOFIS UI has been updated to seamlessly integrate with the ML LV bars (so make sure you download the latest version from the link below).

In this post I'm pleased to introduce an auto focus bracketing feature into DOFIS.

Enjoy!

Although the main topic recently has been the R5/R6 developments, I've been plugging on making DOFIS the focus tool that everyone should have running on their camera: for photography or videography.

This latest release now allows DOFIS to be used with ML advanced bracketing.

http://photography.grayheron.net/2020/09/dofis-now-works-with-ml-advanced.html

As usual I welcome any feedback on DOFIS, especially ideas to make it better.

REMEMBER: DOFIS has been written using the Lua experimental fix build. Make sure you are using that build or the Lua module from it.

As some of the photographers may be interested, I've just updated my last blog post with an 11 shot, focused stacked, IR image, taken with the help of DOFIS: http://photography.grayheron.net/2020/09/dofis-eosm.html

Just a update directed at refactoring and stabilising the code, ie no functionality change.

Another uplift for my DOFIS script. This time addressing a couple of 'limitations' in ML Lua: around the RAW Spotmeter and ML Advanced Bracketing.

The latest version now allows semi-auto exposure bracketing in all auto focus bracketing modes, as well as when no focus bracketing has been selected.

The DOFIS exposure bracketing is based on 'only' telling DOFIS the ML spotmeter reading in the shadow region, after carrying out an ML ETTR.

http://photography.grayheron.net/2020/09/dofis-auto-perfect-focus-and-exposure.html

As usual I welcome any feedback on DOFIS, although I accept I may be the only lucky person using the script  :) ;)

This post should be of interest to those photographers seeking out a 32 bit based workflow, when undertaking deep focus and high DR capture, ie beyond what a single image can achieve, even with Dual-ISO  ;)

In this post I cover the model for next major uplift to DOFIS, which will account for lens asymmetry, ie to cover the macro and pano photographers:

'Finally', as promised, here is the latest version of DOFIS, that now uses an asymmetric, split lens model.

This latest version gives the correct field of views (horizontally, vertically and diagonally) as the lens changes focus, ie fully modelling lens breathing.

It also 'correctly' estimates DoFs from macro to the deep far field, although DOFIS only reports relative DoFs greater than a mm ;)

For the pano photographers, DOFIS now estimates the position of the pano pivot point, ie relative to the sensor.

The latest post and info on DOFIS may be read here: http://photography.grayheron.net/2020/10/dofis-now-supports-macro-and-pano.html

More fun with ML and DOFIS. This time perfect '3 degree of freedom' bracketing: exposure, focus and composition:

Not strictly DOFIS related, although this post uses the DOFIS model to give some rules of thumb to photographers seeking to get the most out of hyperfocal focusing: http://photography.grayheron.net/2020/10/the-hyperfocal-distance-understanding.html
