Is 10, 12, or 14 bit H.264 possible??

I know that we can shoot in 10, 12, and 14 bit in RAW mode, but is it possible to shoot with better color depth and still compress the footage so that it doesn't fill a card so fast? (6D or 70D are the two cameras I have, if that's relevant).

10-bit H264 doesnt even exist, in any camera. H264 is 8-bit only in every camera and encoder.

thanks for clarifying that.

in that case is there any way to implement some kind of compression in-camera to RAW footage? I seem to remember seeing something about it, but I can never find the same info twice and I never know if it's even remotely up to date.

There is this option called lossless compressed raw recording in magic lantern.
But it's not in the standard nightly builds, it's on the "experiments" downloadpage:
https://builds.magiclantern.fm/experiments.html

If you scroll down to "4K raw video recording; lossless compression" builds.
You will see all the builds that contain lossless compression, 6d is supported, 70d not.
Build for the 6d which contains lossless raw recording option:
https://builds.magiclantern.fm/jenkins/job/crop_rec_4k/80/artifact/platform/6D.116/magiclantern-crop_rec_4k.2018Jul22.6D116.zip

You need to use the "mlv_lite" module for lossless recording and not the standard "mlv_rec" module.
So enable the mlv_lite module and you will see the option for lossless raw recording within the raw recording menu. (audio recording is within raw video menu with mlv_lite module)
To get even smaller files, you could even go for the option 12 bit lossless or 11-8 bit lossless recording.
Although in case of lower bitrates, you might sacrifice some dynamic range.

There is an experimental custom build by user ArcziPL

Contains fps override, too.
