Hi there from the Netherlands,

I come to you in search of help. I installed ML a while ago on my 60D and all appeared to be fine. Yesterday during a shoot the camera refused to turn on. It doesn't give any sign of life, except when I remove the battery and SD card. When inserting the battery nothing happens, when I insert the SD card the led blinks twice.

I ran some diagnostrics tools described on this forum. The display test works, the led test and the ROM dumper as well. The ROM dumper report this LOG:

Anybody with any idea how I can fix this?

Much appriciated!!!

Probably already tried, just to be sure.
Did you already try to turn it on without a SD card in it ?

Florian

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Yep, already tried it wothout a card. Also tried different cards en batteries. I also tried to replace autoexec.bat with a back up and tried removing/renaming the config file in the settings folder.

Still stuck.

Take a spare card
Format using cardreader/PC
Remove battery
Insert card
Insert battery
Close lids

Tried a second card with fresh format using EOScard and insert card and battery.

No luck. Only difference is that the LED does not blink when the card is inserted. On my original ML SD it did.

Any other option? Thanks!

Walter Schulz

Repeat my instructions where nothing about EOScard is mentioned! Which means you should not use it for this exercise!

Florian

Just tried with a clean formatted SD card. No luck...

Whats next? Any idea?

Thx!

Florian

Just noticed something else. Not sure if it's relevant for the issue, but when the ML card and battery are in, the camera makes a very very soft electric humming noise. When I put a SD card formatted in different Canon camera in, the camera makes a very soft clicking noise.

Official troubleshooting instructions: https://builds.magiclantern.fm/60D-111.html -> Troubleshooting

Remove battery, remove card.
Put battery back, close card and battery covers.
Start the camera without card.

It's important to follow them exactly in this order; otherwise, the CPU might be stuck and will no longer react to the power switch (which is a soft button, btw).

If it doesn't work, try getting a startup log with one of these builds:
https://builds.magiclantern.fm/jenkins/job/startup-log
https://builds.magiclantern.fm/jenkins/job/startup-log-mpu

You could also try to start your camera in C mode. Take the battery out before attempting to start it.

If it still doesn't work, send me a PM with a copy of your ROM; I might be able to reproduce the issue in QEMU.

I'm not sure how to use these. I copied the files to the SD card. Than it says:

start the camera;
you have 20 seconds to perform some action (e.g. take a picture, open Canon menu, or whatever else you wish to investigate);
once the LED stops blinking, you've got a log file on your card.

Obviously I can't start the camera. Am I missing something?

Tested this in C mode (and all others). No luck...:-(

Wil do so. Thanks a million!

Hi! Was this issue resolved?

I am having the same problem with my 60D since yesterday. I updated to the last nighgly build and after a few minutes working it went dead, it doesn't turn on.

I tried:
1) Turn it on without sd card. Still dead.
2) Format different SD card in PC (fat32), remove battery, insert card, insert battery. Still dead.
3) I ran ROM dumper autoexec.bin and I get:

4) I tried running both:
https://builds.magiclantern.fm/jenkins/job/startup-log
https://builds.magiclantern.fm/jenkins/job/startup-log-mpu
but I can't get the camera to start. I only get a single long led flash after battery is inserted and nothing gets written in the card.

Is there anything else I could try?
Thank you for any help you can provide me!
