Question: Does the speed of the SD card I'm using to run magic lantern matter?

I can record onto my CF card (linked below) 1920x1080p at 24fps fine without limit, but not 30fps. It begins to skip frames after 15-20 seconds when going 30fps. Alternatively, I can record 1600x900p at 30fps fine without limit.

The SD card has max of 27 MB/s. It's linked here:

The CF card--I know--is fast enough. It's the Lexar 1066x 160 MB/s.

"I know" can mean two things:
- I have tested it and numbers are within expected range.
- Other have tested a card that looks like mine.

AFAIK there are at least 2 different versions of this card and there is - at the moment - no way to tell them apart but to run a benchmark test and draw conclusion. One has superior write performance > 100 MByte/s (tested with ML's benchmark module). The other will do just about 81 MByte/s.
If you have a decent cardreader you may test/confirm with PC you got the fast one. Or use ML's bench.mo.

Well hot damn. Yep, I've got the slow one. 79.8 MByte/s write. That's nowhere close to the 155 MByte/s speed advertised. Do you have recommendations for faster cards?

Either contact your reseller and let them replace the item with a fast one. Or go Sandisk Extreme Pro known for endurance and performance. Komputerbay may also be an option but mixed experience with reliability.
Haven't heard from users of Toshiba Exceria Pro, though.
