silent picture while tethered to pc via usb

Hi
Is there a way to pull DNG files from the camera while tethered via usb to a laptop?  It appears that I cannot access the DNG files without removing the CF card from my 7D.  I'd like to automate this so that the I can pull the files directly over usb from the card and automatically convert them.  The idea is to have the camera to be grabbing frames for days at a time.
