1100D - sound hasn't recorded and video is out of sync with external recording

Hi!

I've been using ML for a few months, to record interviews I publish online. So far so good, it has given me loads of control in video settings where the 1100D's firmware gives you next to none. One thing canon does give you the option to do is record only video not sound, not sure why you'd want to do that as sound can be removed later and weighs almost nothing, and so have never tweaked that option.

Sometimes though, an ML box pops up when I'm filming warning me that "sound recording is turned off". I didn't worry about it too much since I thought I could match up my external sound by eye although it is tedious. However, now that I am trying to edit all this footage, I'm finding that all the videos which recorded without the sound are slowed down to be completely out of sync with the external sound recording. I usually use two external mics and they sync up fine with each other so I'm pretty sure the issue is with the video.

I sometimes use the ML card when I'm going to have the time to play about with the settings but if it's the interview requires me to be quick, I just use one of the cards that doesn't have ML on it. So far it seems that the problem has only occured when I've been using the non ML card but not every time. Using the software MediaInfo, I've found that both the files with sound and without sound are in constant 25fps, which suggests that I was using the non ML card (with ML I film in 23.976 fps).

- does anyone understand what might have happened?
- does anyone have a fix for bringing my dodgy videos into sync with the audio?
- what shouldn't I do in future to always have my reference audio (and normal unwarped video)?

EDIT: I appear to have been mistakenly using the ML card for at least some of the footage I'm having problems with. So I'm guessing now that I have accidentally toggled some ML setting which cuts the sound and slows the video. Could this be RAW filming? In my research before writing this post I found some stuff that suggested that RAW filming doesn't record sound, I have no idea about RAW filming and don't even know if it's an option with ML on the 1100D, I certainly couldn't find that option in the menu. Hopefully this new clue will help some of you out there help me! thanks in advance!
