Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't really find relevant information. Have you seen any visual difference between uncompressed raw and lossless raw? The difference in file size is huge, but visually, even after hard grading, I can't see any. Thank you.

QuoteLossless compression is a class of data compression algorithms that allows the original data to be perfectly reconstructed from the compressed data.

Lossless compression is used in cases where it is important that the original and the decompressed data be identical, or where deviations from the original data would be unfavourable.

Thank you for your reply.
So, there should be no difference between lossless and uncompressed. When to use uncompressed then?

There are cameras which are not able to compress (yet) - e.g. 50D and 5DII.
If playback on computer is not fast enough with compressed MLVs, using uncompressed footage might be faster (e.g. when using MLVApp: uncompressed 20fps, lossless 13fps; @FHD on iMac 2011). Compressed footage has to be uncompressed in order to process and view.
