60D video audio issues

Hi Im about ready to tear my hair out - Ive bought a rhode film maker kit to film video with my Canon 60 D - when we plug the audio mic into the mic jack - the video has no sound once played back on the laptop - pull the mic out of the jack sound works
Ive used three differeent types of Mic's plugged in No Sound - pull the mics out of the Jack Sound

Any help here would be greatly Apreciated !

Make sure your kit is working by using mic jack of your computer or another recording device.
