MLV exposure

I recently shot a wedding and when I got the MLV files back to my mac and looked at them most of them were just as I expected but some were really grainy and banding was really bad!! I use MLV mystic to convert my MLV and then davinci to colour grade and then output as prores 422hq..... I'm wondering if I should under or overexpose shots when using MLV as I'm thinking maybe I underexposed these shots and when trying to pull the data back up I've got issues with noise....
