Are Canon IS lenses pointless on a Ronin-M (or similar)?
« on: November 15, 2016, 07:59:12 PM »
I ask because I'm trying to decide between an EF 24mm f/1.4 II L or an EF 24mm f/2.8 IS plus an EF 35mm f/2 IS.

I want a wide angle prime for my Ronin-M, but as that is already a stabiliser, is the IS in the latter two lenses therefore superfluous and I would be better off investing in the L lens?

Any thoughts/experience welcome and thank you in advance.  I already have a set of EF zooms with IS for my handheld shots but don't want to use a zoom on the Ronin to avoid having to rebalance each time the focal length changes.

If you want to save a bit of money, but not compromise image quality - take a look at the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art as well.

Ronin + IS lenses is a killer combo.

We shot some scenes of this music video with Ronin + 28mm Nikon f2 AIS and Canon 24-105 f4 IS L
The scene inside and around the drug den are shot with the 28mm, the shot on the bike was with  the IS lens.
If you pay attention you will see the difference bettwen an IS lens and a non IS one :)

Thanks and I really appreciate you posting the film to illustrate.  I can see the difference!
