Hello everyone,

I am using 5DMarkIII with Lexar Professional 1066x 64GB card.

I need help to figure out the best frame size and aspect ratio for continuous shooting at almost full HD.
I want to shoot continuously for at least 4 to 5 min. Full HD resolution gives just about 10 sec or so.

Please advice. Thanks.

And what framerate you're using and need?
Use this calculator to see approx values http://rbrune.github.io/mlraw/

1080p30 is 103.8MB/s
1080p25 is 86.5MB/s
1080p24 is 83.1MB/s

MarkIII CF card max write speed is 100MB/s, so 24/25 fps FullHD will be recording till card is full (also don't forget to switch to exfat if you didn't, to write 4+Gb files).
For 30fps you'll have to go for 1856x1044 (16:9) or lower. Or use wider aspect ratio.

Thanks for the info.

How about 60 fps? Should I use canon menu to set the frames and fps or use ML fps override function?

Hey thapapawan,

I enjoy shooting at 2:35:1 aspect ratio. It's less likely to have dropped frames on the 7D, and when uploaded to Vimeo, it looks really nice. Just upload as 1920 x 817, as well as your editing timeline. Hope this helps! Oh and you can use Cinescope crop marks on the Magic Lantern menu for framing.

Hey thapapawan,

You're welcome! I recommend using 1280x720 mode and not using fps override if you want 60 fps. This way you can record sound as well if needed.

Re: 5D3 -- Try shooting 60p 720p mode from Canon menu and then enable FPS override to 48fps (w aspect ratio to 2.35:1) in ML menu to get continuous recording and slo-mo still looks just as good as 60p and/or more resolution can be adjusted to a larger AR (obviously won't be continuous but still doable) such as 16:9 (you'll get 12 seconds per take w a 1066x CF card formatted in exFAT) whichever suits your needs the most.

Also don't forget to enable 'Files > 4GiB (exFAT)' to ON otherwise...

*edit* sorry for the off-topic -- you can then stretch the DNG's to a 1080p timeline in NLE... I mean it's just RAW being debayered into a codec of choice which still looks better than 720p 60p or let alone 30p 1080p in H264, right? Also try exporting as 4K for Vimeo/YouTube online viewing purpose. Even YouTube currently accepts ProRes4444 uploads. Haven't tested XQ yet tho.

Great info here DeafEyeJedi! I haven't tried uploading XQ yet but did see on the forum that 4444 is accepted on Youtube now. I'll have to try this on Vimeo too.
