There are few graded footages I get this weekend by Canon 70D... I love the results. Colour grading of ProRes 4:4:4 is so damn good and enjoyable. However I'm not able to use it in professional work. Limitations are simply not enough. 13 sec of continuous RAW footages in 1824x776/25FPS without sound - that's not enough. So I will probably sell my Canon gear and lenses and go for Sony a6300. I'm worry about photography (DSLR is DSLR) but hey... 4K with gamma logs and almost no moiré, 120FPS FullHD... 80D is not even close to this, new 5DIV is also disappointing for me. Canon simply force me to not like them=(

EDIT: Maybe 5DIII with ML would be option too, because of lenses...

I'm sticking with Canon for that reason, too - plus I suspect the grass is not entirely greener on the other side.

why dont u shoot 720P @24fps continous with sound. shooting 720P raw, editing in 720 timeline adn  rendering in 1080p is way better than shooting 1080p h264 atleast in my test

Actually that is good point. I have to try it. Unfortunately sound of mlv files start in a middle of timeline, don't know why. Sync in post is very time consuming.

EDIT: Well I realised that 720P is not an option because of crop.

You can get around the crop problem easily using wider lenses! :) 15mm = 30mm 18mm = 36mm 24 = 46 etc. :)

there shouldnt be any problem in audio sync. try mlvfs or raw2cdng. for me everything is going so well.

its better than my bmpcc which i never use after few test. i got some few vintage wide angle lens for my 70d so not an issue but my tamron 17-50mm does most of my job prety wel

Alright, I'll give it try... I'm really curious about 1080p h264 vs upscaled 720p raw. Of course colours and dynamic range would be better, but what about details, crop-get-around and moiré... I think I have plans for next weekend=) Thanks.

while rendering to 1080p from a 720p timeline, u should do proper settings in your editing software. i hav even tried rendering to 2.5k and found it soooooo good. never do editing in 1080p/2.5k time by upscaling your 720p footage. i dont know what NLE u use. i use premiere pro cc. when it comes to moire, it wil b the same as u  get while shooting 1080P h264. not a big deal... all the best and happy shooting

I also use Premiere PRO CC. How should I edit project from 720p footages? Upscale during rendering if not just upscaling to 1080p project?

if u shoot 720p, edit in 720p timeline. it wil make your computer run smoothly. after u finish editing xport in 1080p/2.5k or whatever u prefer... make sure u do proper setting while exporting in premiere pro. premiere pro or after effects gives better results then davinci resolve lite in my test.

Can I see your test somewhere?
