Hi,

we just shot a sports documentary on the 5DM3 with ML in RAW using an external monitor Sony CLM-V55. Later while editing we realized that there is a short delay from the camera via HDMI to the external monitor while recording! Normally that little delay wouldn't be an issue but with sports its different. Trying to frame fast movements results in a perfect framing in the monitor, but is captured slightly off. As far as I know USB and SDI are even slower than HDMI.

Are there any recommendations, other monitors with less delay?

cheers,
Frank

Don't think it's a monitor issue, I think it's a combo of the HDMI and the way the camera processes the image and sends it. There is a slight delay even without using ML, and it's possible that ML RAW introduces a bit more delay.

Sony CLM-V55 and his copy Viltrox DC-50 has delay 4 frames from 24fps.
I measured it by the videos on youtube:

My monitor Lilliput 5D-II has delay 3 frames from 25fps (Canon 5d2 with ML: RAW recording).

domasa, can you please tell me, if any of the ML-DIGIC peaking mode work on the Lilliput? Thank you in advance :)

ML-DIGIC peaking does not work with Lilliput :-(

This has another functions:
"Sligthly sharper" = OFF
"Edge image" = monochrome view
"Edge + chroma" = view with watery colors

These views are not sharpe. Unfortunately, these views are not related to picture style.

Thanks. Yes, that's how it went with the Aputure VS-2 FineHD too.
You say there is a delay of 3 Frames: Do you feel/see the delay?  The latency of the Aputure was unfortunately too big, especially if you want to follow focus.

No, I don't feel delay (when I don't concentrate on delay).
