Really wanted to use ML on the EOS M2 as I loved the EOS M. Dfort had some M2 Builds and I think Danne had one. In communication with both of them in regard to the builds and their issues, they kept refining them. Dannes build had stuff that didn't work so well compared to Dforts and then the opposite. Placomf some of Dforts M2 ML Build Module/s into Dannes seemed to do the trick and then that was the "mergerd build" that is useable as you can see. No frozen live view or anything. All you need to do is couple tap menu in live view for refresh register.

*Shutter is usually 1/45 to 1/56 increment. So to get 1/50 you just set Original Shutter to "Full Range".

I would like to request that whenever someone has the time if they could please port 2.5K Raw to the EOS M2. Thanks a lot!

I am having a problem getting proper framing from live view as everything seems shifted down vertically when watching the recorded video compared to what was seen on the live view screen. It seems much worse especially when you use a 2.35:1 aspect ratio with crop marks cause you cant get the framing right without using the "Framing" option for Live View, but that is way too slow to use the camera like this I think. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks

Help please. I have an official version 1.03 (not a magic lantern)
She takes photos with manual lens not correctly. The image after the shot is much brighter than the one that is visible on the display at the time of shooting. This happens on all manual lenses. Because of the big difference, I can't properly expose the image. How to solve this problem?
Are there any older versions of firmware 1.02 on the forum?

Up. Hack bag:
this happens only in M mode, switching the camera to AV and TV mode, the brightness of the exposure on the screen and in the image become the same.
I want to try the old firmware.

The EOS-M1 does not have proper exposure simulation when using manual lenses.  Not sure if it is the same with the EOS-M2

However, it seems that Magiclantern can provide proper exposure simulation with the EOS-M1 and manual lenses.  The trick is to go to the ML "Exposure" menu and disable "ExpSim" and enable "ExpoOveride."

I made a some cropmarks for the pixel shift that happens with vertical and horizontal live view compared to actual framing to compensate if anyone wants to test. Can't really do much about the horizontal pixel shift but it is good enough fixing the vertical since that shifts much more. This was only tested for 2.35:1 aspect ratio, mv1080_rewire, and 1736x738 on the EOS M2. I did not test other settings or cameras. Let me know if it needs adjusted at all. I couldn't figure out how to compress the .bmp for smaller file size from the instructions I found, but I'll give it another go in the near future. The first image has solid black bars, while the second has transparent bars. If you film in those settings with the M2, you shouldn't have to check your framing using these since it will match what you see on live view, for the most part.

To get 1/48 Shutter, set the Canon Menu to "1920x1080 > 30 FPS"... and the Magic Lantern Menu to "FPS Override > 24 (from 30) > Exact FPS". mv1080p_rewired Crop Mode and Raw Video 1736x738.

Google Drive shouldn't convert anything.

Yeah, I was just trying to use an image service without a bandwidth limit, but Google Photos probably has one anyway. I switched them to Google Drive download links.

Using a merged M2 build from Danne and DForts M2Builds:

I used SANDISK SDCARD EXTREME PRO 64GB 170MB S CLASS 10 SD CARD EXTREME PRO 64 GB 170 MBPS CLASS10. I have followed all your youtube tutorial regarding this M2 hack. thanks for your answer sir .

Set camera to video mode, go into Magic Lantern Movie tab and turn off Crop Mode and Raw Video. Then you can switch to photo mode and should be able to take photos.

Anyone know if its possible to record in H264 but with the framerate override option so I can still get the true 24p? I can't seem to figure it out but not sure which options I should enable/disable. The reason I need H264 instead of raw is that I got 4 of these cameras that will be on tripods recording for 8 hours straight. If its raw that would be 1tb of data for each, requiring a $400 1TB SD Card for each. Thanks in advance.

Awesome Critix, thanks a lot

@Zeek: You think you can merge with the more stable merged build if needed?
x4 Full Spectrum Canon EOS M (Navy Blue) | x1 Full Spectrum Sony FX3

Danne

Builds should be tested and reported working or not. I just tested @critix briefly but still default raw buffer only. A lot of functions not at all working. Not blaming anyone since porting is vast work. Still long way to go and main issues are not fixed yet.

ZEEK

The build I'm using is pretty good for the M2. Like the MCM Rewire 1080 Mode is working perfect and I like it. I'm not quite sure what the aim is to develop on the M2. Would 2.5K Mode be a possible option as a next step? To get it to the state of the M,...not sure how farfetched that idea is.

@Mythic Cinema, I'm not sure what the point of merging would be, as in what that would add. The build I'm using can shoot MCM 1080 fine.
I'll test it out anyway, but Danne has mentioned that the issues haven't been fixed yet.

I think I just misunderstood what was updated, but yea there is a lot of issues on M2 other than mv1080 raw. I think I'll just probably replace the cameras with M versions and keep one M2.

As much as I love the M2 for better low light, wifi photo transfer, etc. The M with ML right now is the better choice! Good luck! ;D

I think the main reason there was never much interest is because they are Japanese exclusive cameras, which makes them less common. Even though they are technically a little better than the EOS M.

Could anyone, please, tell me what is the bandwidth of the M's and M2's card controller for write? What does show benchmark with the fastest SD card you can get?
Canon EOS 5D Mk III + Canon 24-105 F/4 L IS USM + SanDisk Exreme Pro 64 GB (SD, ML Nightly.2021Feb07.5D3113) + SanDisk Extreme Pro 128 GB (CF).

Walter Schulz

Controller is running SDR50/DDR50: Around 50 MByte/s. That is without overclocking.

Fastest benchmark write speeds with overclocking: Around 67 MByte/s.
Fastest benchmark write speeds without overclocking: Around 43 MByte/s.

Wlad81

Almost the same as with 100D.

Starting with the changes made by Danne to:
https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9741.msg208959#msg208959, I added support for EOSM2.
It's not finished yet ... there are some adjustments to be made, but it's functional.... I hope ;D

Branch:

And for firmware version 1.0.4:

Branch:
https://bitbucket.org/ccritix/magic-lantern/branch/update_to_EOSM2.104

Last edit:
I changed some values in mlv-lite, and rebuilt ML.

Your built for firmware ver. 1.04 prompts for firmware ver. 1.03, so I couldn't install it in my now firmware ver. 1.04 EOS M2.

ctfire

hi everyone if it possible to make some fast fps modes on eos m2 48-50-60 fps in raw?

critix

Yes, ML-SETUP.FIR is for version 1.0.3.
With version 1.0.3, the ML-SETUP.FIR is updated with which the bootflag is set. Then update to version 1.0.4 and use ML for version 1.0.4.
Unfortunately, there is no ML-SETUP.FIR for 1.0.4 yet.

Hello!
I installed recommended by ZEEK the M2 build from Danne and DForts M2Builds:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o6e0LMn7r3bbNj84O06ThT3qezL14iEf/view

But whenever you try to record RAW, stripes appear that are visible both on the preview in the camera and in the MLVProducer program.
What can it be and is it possible to fix it?
THX!
