I have a 128GB 1066x card which I use to record MLV Raw plus audio. I am able to record until the card fills up in one take when I set EXFAT mode enabled in Magic Lantern firmware. If I were to purchase a 256GB Card would that fill up the card on one take without stopping for any reason? I just wanted to check before I purchase one. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Folks,
I shoot a Canon 5DMK3 and use 5 - 256GB Lexar 1066x  CF Cards when I shoot  musical performances.  The reason you can fill a 128GB card is because the camera limits the time you can shoot at one time.  It comes out to 29 minutes and 52 seconds which is about the amount of data you can fill on a 128GB card.  When I use a 256GB card, I have to use at least 2 files of about 29 minutes long. If you leave your camera on to long and it shuts off, the files on my CF Card get  corrupted and I haven't found a way to salvage the video it shot... I hope this helps...  I've shot hundreds of acoustical concerts of some of Americas best songwriters on private trains of "Roots On The Rails".  I use a SD744T to record the audio off the sound board at 24-192.

As of late January earlier this year It has been confirmed that there shouldn't be any limited recording times if shooting Raw/MLV With card set to eXFAT and be sure to enable exFat in ML menu as well.

If you guys are talking about h264 then it IS limited to 29:59 which can be restarted with "movie restart" from ML but will miss about a second or less in between takes.

Also be sure to use the latest nightlies.
