Can PTP be used to tell camera GPS coordinates ?

I wish to make EOS-M add GPS tag to EXIF,   in a similar way as GP-E2 does when connected (not sure whatever it uses PTP or just serial data)  - but from a far more precise source.
Is it possible to use PTP this way (just inject coordinates a few times per second ?)
