Hello All -

A close friend of mine from work decided to give it a shot after years of convincing him that ML would bring a whole another life to his precious 5D2 (yes I said that right, 5D markII) and after succesfully installing the latest nightly on it... Suddenly I got all the goosebumps probably from being a previous owner of this somewhat still an incredible camera that I sold long ago for good reason(s).

Because the Nightlies just seems nicer than 5D3 in terms of Audio Controls, etc... but then again there are also some few things that 5D2 does not include what the 5D3 has in their Nightlies, such as FPS override, Shutter fine-tune controls, etc... respectively!

Anyway back on topic of this particular thread... I took the MLV's from his camera and started experimenting with Cinelog-C on it and I must admit that the 5D3 definitely produces better quality (by not much but still noticeable) in terms of MLV RAW when combining with LUT's and whatnot.

Shot on 5D2 in MLV 23.97 fps 1856x1044 with 35mm Zeiss 2.8 @ ISO 200-800

Post-Workflow as follows:

Interesting. Ilike the last one
"Fernando's 5D2 Cinelog-C Andy600 log to REC709 Fullrange (by @Danne)"

It,s cinelog-C and the Andy600 logtoREC709 Fullrange originally intended for dual iso right?

DeafEyeJedi

Correct but this footage wasn't shot in dual ISO & still came out OK -- perhaps I should do another test shoot in Dual ISO and use the same lut to see the differences?

Really It's always been there , unless the least nightly for some reason it been omitted .
it was there on the  magiclantern-Nightly.2015Jun25.5D2212 build.

Nice shots BTW, just a little heads up , the 5D2 love to be ETTR . Not the module but the process , when you think you have the right expose
go 1 or 2 stops more , give killer clean darks & shadow's in my experiences .

DeafEyeJedi

It was my first time shooting MLV RAW on a 5D2 (let alone it isn't my camera) and yes indeed you have a valid point there especially after playing with these files in post my gut feeling was telling me that I should have ETTR a little bit more and then pull the stops down by 1 or 2 in Post, as you mentioned.

I'll definitely keep this in mind and will share that with him and again I appreciate your feedbacks as always, @reddeercity!

I will also double check and confirm regarding FPS override (I probably meant Shutter Fine-Tuning to help get rid of flickering) either that or is the FPS override sitting somewhere different within the ML settings comparing to the 5D3 whereas I am more familiar with so my fault on that misunderstanding.

But I guess I assumed that all nightlies would have at least somewhat similar layouts/settings in ML menu's with each cameras or no?
