@paulheran Wow... Paul that was amazing.  Did you use any LUT's in Davinci Resolve?  Did you convert footage to BMD Film Log than graded?  Lastly did you use the Full version of RawMagic, or the Lite version.  Keep up the great work Cheers.

@paulheran if you don't mind can you go into more detail on your workflow with Davinci Resolve.

DeafEyeJedi

indeed, nice work @paulheran.

Care to share your specs/settings within ML?

Thanks for sharing!

@goldenchild9to5 Thank you for your compliments!

So I followed Hunter Hampton's tutorial for workflow, and then used Andrew Reid's (eoshd) lut i believe. I played around with Hunter's lut too and I like it for some stuff, but the eoshd lut was a little more realistic looking to me.

Basically, bring footage into rawmagic>resolve and convert all shots to bmd log and then apply the lut, and then make any exposure/color corrections.

I'm running resolve 11 lite on my macbook pro. (pretty slow, but doable)

@DeafEyeJedi

The 24P stuff is all 1920x1080 (cropped with bars in post) I had no problem shooting continuous at that size/frame rate. No special settings these were some of my first shoots with ml raw, so I didn't change much. I can't remember if it was in raw or mlv mode though..

For the slowmo shots, I just changed the frame rate in the Canon menu to 1280x720 60p. I set the aspect ratio in the ML Raw menu to 2.35:1, and the resolution to 1920x818 which gives you a squished image. In Davinci resolve's color module, I increased the height by 1.61 to achieve a normal looking 2.35:1 image. Oh, and I was only able to shoot 8-10 seconds at a time with a 64GB Komputer Bay card. Good Luck!

Sweet stuff. Definitely try @Andy600's Cinelog-C LUTS! However, did you use the latest RAWMagic? (If so, not sure if it comes with proper color matrices which is important for color grade) I'll need to investigate more on this in particular though.

Perhaps next time try using @dmilligan's MLVFS which is an amazing app & definitely worth checking out. Also recommended to use with Cinelog-C LUTS per @Andy600.

Also try KB's 128GB 1066x CF cards -- they have been serving me well for the past several months!

@paulheran Thank you for replying with such detailed info about your workflow, but just like @DeafEyeJedi also curious if you used the Latest RAWMagic Software Paid one, or Free version?  One Last thing you using Canon's Firmware 1.1.3, or 1.2.3 with ML RAW Hack?

DeafEyeJedi

I doubt RAWMagic is supported here by ML although the app just recently got updated to 1.3 (paid version) so not sure.

I'd rather use MLVFS for RAW/MLV anyway since it won't take up disk space. [emoji6]

@DeafEyeJedi Very true.. Gotta learn the MLVFS WorkFlow.

paulheran

@goldenchild9to5 Just checked my Raw Magic is version 1.3 but I must have paid for it a while back. It had an update to 1.3.1 available.. hmm. Canon firmware was 1.2.3 and my ML version is nightly.2014Aug07.5D3123. I am I missing out on new features in more recent versions, or am I ok with the one I have?

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help.

@paulheran:

It is always recommended to many of us die hard ML users to stay on top of the nightlies... since they are technically up to date & usually more reliable and durable for the most part!
