5D Mk.II frozen datetime [ML unrelated probably]

Hello,

a few weeks ago I was out shooting with my 5D Mark II, when the battery died. After I put in the charged one, the camera turned on, but the date remained frozen at 01.01.2008, and it couldn't be changed. Since then, every time I open the camera, the date dialog pops up, always at 01.01.2008, and It can't be changed, neither from the menu (it seems to be disregarding the OK button) or from gphoto2 through my PC.

I changed the clock battery, as I suspected this was the problem, but still.

Everthing else seems to be working fine.
The problem persists with ML, without ML, with or without an SD card.
Any suggestions, other that sending it in for repair, which it will probably result in a costly board replacement?

@stavrosg Try resetting your camera to factory default..
