Hello, I'm planning to buy 6d, but maybe I'd like to use it as a webcam on streams so I need unlimited runtime and clean hdmi.
I know by design I cant have them, but with can I bypass it with magic lantern firmware (I saw multiple videos as in ML you can complitely disable overlays = clean hdmi, not sure about runtime)

Also, how sturdy shutter is? How long usally it lasts (i.e. 5d mark II lasts for 500k approx.)

Thanks

Ah no raw, that explains it.
The crop modes don’t work with standard h.264 movie recording.
Once te recording is pressed, the camera switches to 1x zoom.

So for higher resolutions, you need to enable raw recording in ML menu.
Go to 5x zoom, hit trashcan button for ML menu. Use q button on raw video option to enter raw video sub menu. Set aspect ratio to 16:9 and scroll to resolution option. On resolution option, you can use the scrollwheel on top of the camera to set desired resolution.

Sorry for the *way too noob* question but when you're saying this nightly build works on 6D right now we assume a downgrade to 1.1.6 from a camera running firmware 1.1.8, right?

I just jumped into a 6D bought second-hand which was already on 1.1.8 and I'm pretty used to run ML on older 450D and 1100D borrowed from a friend for a while right now which certainly doesn't need any downgrades  :P

So I apologize for the totally stupid sounding question amidst a quite interesting crop_rec conversation.  Thanks in advance!

Do i understand correctly that "2480x1396" in the crop mode name only shows maximum theoretical resolution and actual recording resolution depends on selected raw settings (resolution, aspect ration, data format) and sd card specs?

Almost right.
Do i understand correctly that "2480x1396" in the crop mode name only shows maximum theoretical resolution and actual recording resolution depends on selected raw settings (resolution, aspect ration, data format) and sd card specs?

SD card specs don't inlfuence any options, slower SD cards give slower recording times (camera stops recording once the internal buffer is filled up, internal buffer fills up when SD card isn't fast enough to handle the write speed.)

The crop mode actually changes sensor read out settings, so it only reads out that certain part/resolution of the sensor, the rest of the sensor isn't readout at all.
ML raw menu let's you select any recording options, within that part/resolution.

Hey there.
I saw a video on youtube where the creator says he is using the build: magiclantern-Nightly.2020Jul16.6D116
But here on the forum I can't find anything newer then Nightly.2018Jul03.6D116.
Does someone here know where this build is hidden?

Update: Found it: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:TWJAaqGudUEJ:https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php%3Ftopic%3D15088.1250+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=pl

For those wondering why thread suddenly ends in '19, it was split and put in another subforum.

Too many Canon cameras.
If you have a dead R/RP mainboard (e.g. after camera repair) and want to donate for experiments, I'll cover shipping costs.

Did all of you sell cameras since the discussion is dead for more than a year.

Does anyone have One Percent's old 6D repo saved somewhere? I'm looking to port some of his work that never made it to MAIN

Possibly here: https://bitbucket-archive.softwareheritage.org/projects/da/datadogie/tragic-lantern-2.0.html

I have not tested this at all.  Where are you considering porting it to?

I'm trying to port headphone monitoring, ALL-i frame, and fullscreen magic zoom for my own personal EOSM builds. His work on EOSM and 6d were in the same repository. He figured out a lot of stuff in 2013 that worked fine but never got merged into main.

and btw, sir,  you are awesome for pointing me to this! I never knew about "software heritage"

I downloaded the archive, it seems the basic structure is there but all the files have a ".i" extension and are displaying incorrectly in a text editor  What is the procedure to converting these back into a useable folder?

oh....

Code: [Select]
Clone
To get back a normal repository, just do
hg clone $bare-repo-name $normal-repo-name
E.g., for jagan/bioreader.html, after downloading and decompressing 9d5f5e8e-a6ba-44d6-8bb4-5a689c66ef09-repository.tar.gz, do the following:
hg clone 9d5f5e8e-a6ba-44d6-8bb4-5a689c66ef09-repo/ bioreader

Wierd.... the HG clone command restores all the loose files in the root directory, but doesn't convert the subfolders, so I'm still trying to figure out a way to convert the files in the "platform" folder.

Hg is a mystery to me so I can't help there.

The features sound useful - if you get them working do please host them somewhere, so other people can benefit.  It sounds like they might not require a crop_rec based branch.  If that's true, it might be practical to integrate them with my repo: https://github.com/reticulatedpines/magiclantern_simplified

I guess more and more are moving to mirrorless since thread is slowly dying...
